After a public hearing and meeting to discuss past performance by the city in carrying out the storm drainage improvements project at 6:45 at the City Hall Council Chambers tonight, the City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda in bids, the city had requested bids for 10 scanners that were budgeted for in the 2012/2013 budget and those bids will be presented. During the hearing of persons, City Attorney William Camm Seay will report on the public hearing and meeting held prior to the Board of Alderman meeting. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will then report on various items concerning the city along with Alderman Kenneth Nash, Haydn Powell, Phillip Giacomelli and Ryan Whitaker. City of Salem Mayor, Gary Brown will then address issues concerning the city. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The public hearing and meeting, regarding the storm drainage improvement project as well as the City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting are open to the public.
The Salem Police Department released more of their reports. On Friday, February 8th at 9:12 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to McDonalds in reference to a disturbance involving a firearm. The investigation revealed that a 45-year old Salem male had brandished a firearm to a 21-year old Salem male during a confrontation between the two. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, and assault. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Monday, February 11th at 2:18 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted by the Prosecutors Office in reference to forged checks. That investigation revealed that someone forged and cashed three checks of another totaling $857.16. Later that afternoon at 3:06, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 58-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and open beer container. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. Later at 3:35 pm, an officer was contacted at station in reference to a theft from a residence in the 1100 block of South Macarthur. That investigation revealed that someone took coins valued $500 from the basement of the residence. On Tuesday, February 12th at 12:15 in the afternoon, an officer was advised that a black 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee had been stolen from a residence in the 100 block of South Carty. On the same date the officer was contacted by Bourbon Police Department, who had located the vehicle on Interstate 44. The vehicle had been driven into barriers in the median of the Interstate and abandoned. At 1:30 that same afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued at $60 and on a fugitive arrest warrant from St. Charles County Department of Corrections. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released after posting bond. Anyone with any information regarding the forged checks or thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the January 22nd meeting, Comptroller Becky Cunningham will present the summary of operations and statistics reports for January. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then update the Board on the Nursing Services, Ancillary Services and Call To Light Reports. Administrator Dennis Pryor will then update the Board with an Auxiliary Report, the hospital activity calendar, legislative issues and there will be a construction update. In old business, there will be an strategic planning goals update and the Board will discuss the Community Health Needs Assessment. In new business, there will be a report from the Finance Committee meeting, the Long Term Care State Survey and the Board will address budgeted as well as non-budgeted purchases for the hospital. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The St. Clair Lady Bulldogs beat the Salem Lady Tigers on Senior Night Monday night at the Salem High School Gym by the score of 63-40. Salem was led in scoring by Savannah Hanning with 19 points. The Lady Tigers fall to 9-16 with the loss and will face Hillcrest in the 1st Round of District play Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at Marshfield High School. The cost of admission to the game is $4.00. That game will be aired on KSMO Radio and ksmoradio.com.
The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will be in St. Clair tonight to face the Bulldogs in their regular season finale. JV will start at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. Salem is 10-14 on the year. You’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.
The Salem Tiger Baseball team will play Mattoon, Illinois at Busch Stadium on Sunday, June 2nd after the Cardinals/Giants game. Ticket prices are $25.00 and include the Cards/Giants game that begins at 1:15pm and then the Salem Tiger game. The original ticket prices for these seats are $53. The Missouri Tiger basketball team will be hosting the 5th ranked and SEC leading Florida Gators tonight at Mizzou Arena. Missouri is 18-7 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio following the Salem Tiger game.
The St. Louis Blues will host the San Jose Sharks tonight at the Scottrade Center at 7:00. The Blues are 9-5-1 on the year and are currently in second place in the Central Division.

Gilbert C. Martin of Rolla, age 88, will have no visitation or funeral services. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
Funeral services for Margaret Rose Niemi of Salem, age 90, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until the service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Funeral services for Jarvice Carroll Johnson of Salem, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Polk Cemetery ay 2:45.
Lanny Raymond “Bear” Watson of Bunker, age 58, will have no visitation or funeral services. Per Lanny’s request, his body will be cremated and there will be no memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
