The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Rob Heberer of Erb Equipment from Cuba discussed the lease and/or purchase of a new loader with the commission. The commission took the literature to review but made no decisions. Thom Haines from the National Forest Service stopped by to let the commission know of a special meeting to be held on March 3rd at the ONCRC for loggers interested in bidding on the downed lumber from the high winds from last May. He also wanted to know if the commission had any policies about signage on the county roads for special operations such as logging. They do not, but believe it would be advisable for anyone doing any work in a county road to warn the public they are working there. In their reports, District Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that he and Commissioner Larson attended a Missouri Department of Conservation Streams Crossing workshop that addressed bridge problems and failures as well as the BRO program. Purcell said that the workers are repairing a windshield on county truck #119, cutting brush on Dent County Road 4110, adding rock to Dent County Road 6190 and checking Dent County Roads 5540, 5550, 5570 and 5690 for muddy conditions. Purcell also said that the commission is accepting grader blade bids and culvert bids until 10:00 AM Thursday morning, February 25th. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that work crews will be hauling rock to the muddy spots on Dent County Roads 2110, 2380, 2570, 3130, 3140 and 3263. They will also be removing the snow blade from county truck #116. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the TAC meeting last week at the MRPC and that they prioritized the needs in this area, and the #1 priority was new and wider shoulders and the repaving of Highway 19 from Salem to Steelville. He also said that the three bridges to be replaced in Dent County would be done in August, September and October of 2011. Skiles stated that he was examining the $12,900 that Dent County was charged for guard duty in the Nash trial, much of which was said to be overtime. Skiles has received the records on the guards from Phelps County, but two of the guards were from Pulaski County and one was from Texas County and he has not received those records yet. He said that he has found some inconsistencies and sent a letter to Judge Long asking for an extension until April 1st for Dent County to pay the remaining balance on what they owe for the change of venue to Phelps County. He has not yet heard back from the judge. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the last day to register to vote for the April election would be on March 10th. She also said that if you did NOT receive a voter registration card in the mail, or you have moved since the last election, please contact her office so that they can update your voter information allowing you to vote in the April election. At the last meeting, the commission approved the phone bids for unleaded fuel from MFA Oil for $2.116, and the diesel fuel bid from Hocker Oil for $2.067. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
