The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports. On February 10
th at 2:20 in the morning, the department received a report of a mailbox being stolen from a residence located off of P Highway. Reported taken was a cedar mailbox in the shape of a house. On February 15
th at 1:35 in the morning, the department received information of a vehicle leaving the area of Highways 19 and 32, and the driver was believed to be intoxicated. The deputy observed the vehicle weaving in its own lane and driving with the driver’s side tires on the center lane. A vehicle stop was conducted on East Truman Street. Investigation led to a 29-year old male being taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition, driving while their licensed revoked, failure to make a left turn within a proper lane and an active warrant from Texas County. Another 26-year old male was taken into custody and charged with tampering in the 1
st degree with a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $4,000. The vehicle, a 1994 Ford Explorer, was reported stolen from Randolph County, Illinois and was impounded for their department. On February 15 at 10:00 in the evening, the department assisted by the Salem Police Department arrested an 18-year old male on a fugitive warrant issued out of Phelps County. He was also charged with resisting arrest in Dent County and is being held with bond set at $500. Further investigation at the residence led to the arrest of a 21-year old male who was charged with possession of under 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen mailbox is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.
There will be an organizational meeting for individuals and agencies interested in the First Steps program tonight beginning at 7:00 pm in the playroom at the Phelps County Community Partnership/Capable Kids and Families building located at 1101 Hauck Drive in Rolla. Parents, providers, representatives of agencies and the general public are encouraged to come and share their ideas and suggestions for the First Steps program, Missouri’s early intervention program for families with children with delays or disabilities.
The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, Alfred Hughes is requesting permission to hold outdoor musical gatherings on his property at 202 West 8th and part of his neighbor’s lot, which the neighbor has given permission. The Musical Gatherings would be held on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 7:00 to 10:00 pm starting March 22nd through September. No fees will be involved and volunteers will provide supervision. Alderman Jim Mc Daniels, Bill Riley, Mike Whitley and Jim Jackson will discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem and Mayor Gary Brown will give his comments on issues as well. City Attorney, Mark Weaver, will present Bill #3120, concerning a settlement agreement with AT&T Wireless. In new and miscellaneous business, the Mayor needs authorization to request engineering services for the Safe Route to Schools Grant, and City Clerk Mary Happel wants direction from the Board on a time line to write-off old unpaid utility bills. After the approval of bills, the Board will go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
A reminder that the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held Wednesday at 12:00 at the Salem TCRC with Dwayne Cartwright from Intercounty Electric the featured speaker.
The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks has issued a code yellow alert for Type A Negative, B Negative and O Negative blood. There is less than a two-day supply on hospital shelves. The next blood drive in the area will be at Bunker at the Bunker Wood Products on Highway 72 East on Monday from 2:30 to 6:30. An ID is required for first time donors and you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health to donate blood.
