The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a stabbing, a traffic stop, fighting at school and loitering. On January 20th at 2:01 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Memorial Hospital in reference to a stabbing victim. The report revealed that an altercation occurred between two males at the Wal-Mart parking lot. During the altercation a 25-year old Salem male cut and stabbed a 31-year old Salem male several times. Further investigation led to the arrest of the 25-year old for 1st degree assault. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. On January 20th at 8:13 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female on a fugitive warrant from Pulaski County. She was incarcerated pending extradition. On January 22nd at 12:20 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the Salem High School in reference to two students fighting. The report led to the arrest of a 17-year old male and an 18-yaer old male, both of Salem for disorderly conduct. Both were issued summons to appear in court and released. On January 29th at 8:19 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to a fight. The report led to the detention of two 13-year old Salem female juveniles for assault. The juveniles were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. On January 29th at 8:43 in the evening, the driver of a vehicle was detained for loitering at the Cultural Resource Center on Highway 19. Further investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The Salem Police Department also released their reports involving fraud, burglaries. On January 21st at 3:28 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to someone fraudulently obtaining a prescription. The report revealed that person(s) unknown obtained a prescription of vicoden. On January 24th at 8:14 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a residence and took cash, prescription medication and other items totaling $2,077. On January 25th at 2:11 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 800 block of East Hunt in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a residence by force and took tools and clothing valued at $720. On February 4th at 7:21 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of East Third in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a residence and took DVD’s and cigarettes valued at $37.48. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The first of many health screenings was held at the Salem Memorial District Hospital in the last two weeks where citizens could get health lipid profile checks for just $15. Despite the bad weather, the hospital had 151 take advantage of this service. The hospital will have another health screening during the month of March as it will be Diabetes Alert Month. The times and dates of the screening will be announced on KSMO Radio and in the Salem News.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers finished up their regular season with an SCA win over the Ava Lady Bears Friday night in a makeup game by the score of 59-50. Allison Jones led the way for Salem with 21 points followed by Natalie Howard with 16 points and Hannah Kettner with 11 more. Salem finished the season with a 19-6 record and 6-1 SCA record. That may only be good enough for 2nd place in the conference as the Thayer Lady Bobcats have a makeup game remaining with Mountain Grove this week. The Lady Bobcats are 6-0.

The Lady Basketball Tigers begin District play tonight at 7:30 against the Owensville Dutchgirls at Union. The cost of admission is $4.00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers captured at least a share of the SCA Championship with an easy win at Houston. Salem jumped out to lead of 44-9 at halftime and put it on cruise control from there, sailing to a 69 to 28 victory to wrap up their regular season with a 19-6 record and 6-1 in the SCA. Cody Wofford had 24 points for Salem. Both Willow Springs and Thayer have makeup games this week as they could share the title with Salem.

Shea Weber's power-play blast 40 seconds into overtime sent Nashville over St. Louis, 2-1, at Sommet Center Saturday night. Yan Stastny tallied for the Blues. Manny Legace took the loss despite a 42-save performance. Then on Sunday, Eric Brewer notched a career-high four assists, and Manny Legace turned away 18 shots as the Blues cruised to a 5-1 rout of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Andy McDonald had a goal and an assist, and Erik Johnson added two helpers for the Blues. McDonald, David Perron and Brad Boyes all scored in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and give the Blues breathing room. The Blues face Chicago Tuesday night.

Michael Beasley scored a game-high 40 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead 18th-ranked Kansas State to a 100-63 win against Missouri at the Fred Bramlage Coliseum. Bill Walker added 18 points and grabbed nine boards for the Wildcats (18-6, 8-2 Big 12), who have won three of four games. Matt Lawrence scored 20 points and Leo Lyons pitched in with nine points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (14-12, 4-7), who have lost three of four games. Missouri will play Colorado on Saturday.

Memorial services for James “Jim” Welch of Salem, age 55, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking with Mr. Roger Kinder and Bro. Harry Foley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Funeral services for Deborah Green Armer of Alexandria, LA, will be this afternoon at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Robert Francis Gearhart of St. James, age 81, will be held Tuesday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral services for Richard G. Calvin of Salem, age 92, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Margie E. Pisciotta of St. James, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice.

Funeral services for Jackie Arnold Babb of Duke, age 76, Wednesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Parkinson Research.
