The five Salem seniors started the game for Salem Tigers Friday night and they jumped out to a 19-15 lead at the end of one quarter and never looked back in an 82-60 win over the Cabool Bulldogs Friday night at the SHS High School Gym. Four Salem Tiger players finished with double figures with Logan Pogue leading the way with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Pogue was followed in scoring by Kobe Mead with 14 points, Logan Woolf with 11 and Paul McClain added 10 more points. Salem is now 12-10 on the year and 3-2 in the SCA. They will be at Willow Springs Tuesday night.
The Salem Lady Tigers have a key SCA match tonight, weather permitting, at Willow Springs as they take their perfect 5-0 SCA Conference record on the road. The Lady Tigers have lost two straight non-conference games since the lost of Baylee Bilyeu and stand at 16-6 on the year. The JV will start play at 6:00 followed by the varsity game at about 7:15. Jori Lehtera scored the winner in the fifth- round of the shootout as the St. Louis Blues edged the Florida Panthers, 2-1, on Sunday. Brian Elliott stopped 40 shots, and Jaden Schwartz scored the only goal in regulation for the Blues, who have won three straight. St. Louis hosts Dallas on Tuesday. KSMO will join that game after the Salem Tigers Basketball game at Willow Springs.
Roquez Johnson and Craig Sword scored 22 points each as the Mississippi State Bulldogs held on for a 77-74 win over the Missouri Tigers in an SEC tilt at Mizzou Arena. Missouri (7-18, 1-11) suffered its 11th setback in a row despite a stellar performance by Johnathan Williams III, who poured in a game-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. Keith Shamburger contributed 15 points and six assists, while Ryan Rosburg netted 12 points. Missouri will face Arkansas Wednesday night.
Reliever Kelvin Herrera, a key part of the Kansas City Royals' surprising run to the 2014 World Series, agreed to a two-year contract with the reigning American League champions on Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed, though the Kansas City Star reported the deal, which will cover Herrera's first two arbitration years, will be worth $4.15 million.
The Kansas City Royals and closer Greg Holland avoided arbitration on Friday, agreeing to terms on a contract for the 2015 season. The deal is worth $8.25 million, according to MLB.com. Holland has totaled 113 saves and compiled a 2.19 ERA in 261 career games since debuting with the Royals in 2010.
