Taylor Sirois recorded his 1,000th career point with a rebound put back in the 4th quarter and the Salem Tigers romped over Ava in the final home game of the year, 73-49. Sirois led all Salem scorers with 25 points and 12 rebounds in the contest followed by Zach Pitchford with 19 points and C.J. Smith with 11 points. Salem moves to 18-6 with the win and 5-1 in the SCA. They finish up their regular season tonight at Houston starting at 6:00 with the JV contest. With a win, the Tigers will share at least part of the SCA Championship. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO starting at 7:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Travis Wrightsman.
Allison Jones scored 15 points and Natalie Howard scored 12 more as the Salem Lady Tigers smashed the Lady Tigers of Houston, 52-30. Salem also received double digit scoring from Jessica Brand who netted 10 points. Salem is now 18-6 on the year and 5-1 in the SCA. They will be at home tonight to face the Lady Bears in their final regular season game and last home game of the year. It will be Senior Night tonight. There will be no JV game, so the varsity contest will start at 6:00.
David Backes posted a goal and an assist, as the St. Louis Blues thumped the Colorado Avalanche, 4-1, at the Pepsi Center. Paul Kariya, Jay McClement and Ryan Johnson also scored for the Blues, who have won for just the fourth time in their last 15 games (4-8-3). Manny Legace continued his dominance over the Avs, stopping 39-of-40 shots to pick up his 21st win of the season. Legace improved to 13-2-0 lifetime against Colorado. The Blues will be in Nashville Saturday night, then return to the Scottrade Center Sunday to face the Columbus Blues Jackets. You can hear both those games on KSMO Radio. With the win, the Blues moved to within five points of the final playoff spot in the west.
The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be at Kansas State tomorrow afternoon at 4:30. Missouri enters the game with a 14-11 record and 4-6 in the Big 12. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
The pitchers and catchers for the St. Louis Cardinals report to Jupiter, Florida today as spring training is officially underway. The rest of the players will be reporting by next week. Spring training games begin March 1st.
