Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded two traffic fatalities during the month of December 2007. This is three less than December 2006. The total fatalities for 2007 are 56 compared to 49 last year. There were a total of 244 accidents, with 64 injuries and two fatalities reported for December of 2007. Crawford County reported 33 accidents with 7 injuries, Dent County reported 17 accidents with five injuries and Phelps County reported 76 accidents with 24 injuries. The fatalities occurred in Maries and Laclede counties. Captain Randy Becker, Commanding Officer of Troop I Headquarters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, would like all motorists to consider their safety and the safety of others when operating a vehicle on the highway. Last year, 56 individuals lost their lives on the roads within the six county Troop I area.  Every day troopers see how speeding, driving while impaired, and not paying attention contribute to accidents. They also see how wearing seatbelts reduces the chances of motorists being killed or seriously injured.
