The 2014 Business Expo will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Salem Upper Elementary gymnasium. The Business Expo is an excellent opportunity for businesses to advertise their products and services. The expo is organized by the chamber and sponsored by Salem Publishing Company and KSMO. The deadline for businesses to have a prime booth space location is March 14th. Businesses may bring their entry form to the chamber membership luncheon meeting on March 11th. Chamber members receive one booth space (10 foot by 6 foot) at no charge. Additional booth spaces are $40 each. The booth space fee for non-chamber members is $140. No sales exchanges are allowed at the expo, however attendees may place orders. There will be food concessions in the cafeteria during the event. Businesses that plan on giving prizes valued at $250 or more are asked to contact the chamber office in order to take full advantage of Expo advertising. The Dent County Fire Protection District released more of their reports. On Friday, February 7th at 5:24 in the evening, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to a vehicle fire in front of Gateway Rent to own on Highway 32 West due to a car accident. Upon arrival there was no fire found. The fire department remained on scene to help clean up the roadway. The fire department returned to quarters at 5:53 and 6 firefighters responded. On Saturday, February 8th 7:29 pm, the Lennox Fire Department paged The Dent County Fire Protection District to a mutual aid structure fire. The fire occurred at 5.8 miles down Highway. H. Upon arrival the fire department found a doublewide mobile home fully engulfed with flames. The residence was a total loss and the fire department returned to the station at 10:34 and 9 firefighters responded. That night at 10:47 The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to a flue fire in the 200 block of East Margaret. Upon arrival on scene the fire department found heavy smoke coming from the flue. The fire was extinguished and minor damage was reported. The fire department returned to quarters at 11:35 and 10 firefighters responded.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Monday, February 10th at 3:52 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 48-year old Salem male in the 800 block of East Hawkins who had one active arrest warrant from Mexico, Missouri and two active arrest warrants from Dent County. He was taken into custody and incarcerated, pending a court appearance. On Tuesday, February 11th at 6:38 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 28-year old male of Nevada, Missouri in the 200 block of North Grand who had an active arrest warrant from Missouri State Probation and Parole. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance.

The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) George O. White State Nursery near Licking offers Missouri residents a variety of native seedlings for reforestation, windbreaks, erosion control, as well as for wildlife food and cover. The State Nursery provides mainly one-year-old bare-root seedlings with sizes varying by species. Seedlings are bundled in quantities of 10, 25 or 100 per species. Prices for seedling quantities range from $6-32 per bundle. Receive a 15-percent discount up to $20 off seedling orders with a Heritage Card. Orders can be placed until April 15, 2014. Orders will be shipped or can be picked up at the State Nursery from February through May. Images of available items and detailed information can be found in the Department’s 2013-2014 Seedling Order Form catalogue. The catalogue is available at MDC regional offices and nature centers or by calling the State Nursery at 573-674-3229. Items can also be viewed and orders placed online at mdc.mo.gov.

Savannah Hanning scored 22 points to lead the Salem Lady Tigers over the Viburnum Lady Jays by the score of 65 to 48. Peyton Curley added 14 points and five rebounds to help the Lady Tigers improve to 8-13 on the year. Avery Gibbs led the Lady Jays with 12 points followed by Ashlyn Boyer with 11 points and Emily Parker with ten points. Salem will host the Thayer Lady Bobcats Monday and it will be Senior Night as it will be the final home game for the Lady Tigers.

Ben Loge scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Ava en route to a Bear win over the Salem Tigers in SCA play, 61 to 49. Salem was led in scoring by Adam Ziske and Cody Whitaker with 12 points each followed by Zayne Kyzer and Logan Pogue who contributed ten points each. The Tigers fall to 10-11 on the year and 3-1 in the SCA. The Tigers will be home tonight to host the Willow Springs Bears and it will be Homecoming. The Basketball Homecoming Court will include Seniors: Mikayla Mathes, escorted by Marshall Cramer; Kelsey Michno, escorted by Cody Whitaker and Taylor Frizzell escorted by Adam Ziske. Junior Hannah Jadwin will be escorted by Junior Zach Elliott; and Sophomore Erin Tune will be escorted by Junior Logan Pogue. Jordan Clarkson notched a game-high 27 points as the Missouri Tigers edged out the Arkansas Razorbacks 86-85 in SEC action at Mizzou Arena. Earnest Ross logged a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers (17-7, 5-6 SEC), who bounced back from a three-game losing streak. Jabari Brown netted 25 points including the eventual game-winning shot. Missouri will host the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 2:30.

Graveside services for Marilyn L. Todd of Rolla, age 78, will be held today at 11:00 at the Broadway Baptist Church Cemetery in St. James. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Fern Quick of Warrenton, formerly of St. James, age 72, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Hobert Dunn of Oates, age 86, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Lesterville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Myers Cemetery in Oates, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.

Funeral services for Peggy Regan of Salem, age 75, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Salem Long Term Care.
