An accident occurred on Wednesday at 8:08 in the morning in Dent County on Highway HH about two miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina driven by 26-year old Darrick Chapman of Salem ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. Darrick Chapman suffered moderate injuries and was flown to the Mercy Hospital in St. Louis by Air Evac. Suffering minor injuries were occupants 5-year old Dayton Chapman of Salem and 30-year old Damien Banks of Salem. They were taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The driver was the only one not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

Do you love the natural beauty and historic treasures of the Ozarks and would like to share this love with others?  Ozark National Scenic Riverways is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer Visitor Center Assistants to meet and greet the public and inform them about the surrounding area. Volunteer Visitor Center Assistants must be 18 or older, friendly, and have good people and organizational skills.  Duties include answering telephones, providing park and area information, keeping brochures stocked, handling information mail outs, assisting visitors with inquiries, and selling store merchandise.  Depending on skills, additional duties can be assigned.  Perhaps, you can assist rangers with special events or school visits. Training and uniforms are provided.  Mileage reimbursement to and from the Visitor Contact Stations in Van Buren or Eminence, Missouri may be available.  The volunteer/s selected for these opportunities goes through background security clearances for suitability. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a premiere law enforcement agency, is testing for new troopers. The Patrol is encouraging qualified individuals of all backgrounds to apply, and will offer testing at nine different locations in Missouri. Those who successfully complete testing will be eligible to continue in the selection process for the 98th Recruit Class, scheduled to begin training on January 2, 2014. The application deadline is March 28, 2013. To be eligible candidates must possess a minimum of 60 college credits, or two years of federal active duty military service with an honorable discharge, or two years of POST certified, full-time law enforcement experience at the time recruit training begins. Test locations and dates in our area include: Troop I in Rolla on April 6, 2013. The starting salary for trooper is $3,095 per month while in training; $3,281 per month after six months; and $3,578 per month at two years of service. Other benefits include group health insurance, contributory retirement, career advancement, and more. The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure including: written examination, a physical fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, background investigation, and oral interview board. After a conditional offer of employment, the applicant must successfully complete a medical examination (to include vision and hearing), psychological examination, a psychological interview, drug screening, and final applicant review. The Salem Lady Tiger basketball team will host the Mountain View-Liberty Lady Eagles tonight at the SHS gym. JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. The Lady Tigers are 9-14 on the season and 2-4 in the SCA. You’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. It can also be seen on fidleitylocal6.com.

The Salem Tiger Baseball team will play Mattoon, Illinois at Busch Stadium on Sunday, June 2nd after the Cardinals/Giants game.  Ticket prices are $25.00 and include the Cards/Giants game that begins at 1:15pm and then the Salem Tiger game. They have three hours to play the game. This is an exciting opportunity for our baseball team. The original ticket prices for these seats are $53. Tickets will be sold at the remaining boys and girls home basketball games and also can be purchased at the Salem TCRC, located in the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The team has 800 tickets to sell with about 600 tickets remaining. For more info, please call 729-8163.

Alex Steen scored just 52 seconds into overtime to help the St. Louis Blues take a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. Chris Stewart had a goal and an assist while Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Tarasenko each scored for the Blues, who snapped a five-game slide. Jake Allen stopped 15 shots in the win. The Blues will play the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Keion Bell scored 24 points, Jabari Brown added 20 points, and Missouri easily defeated Mississippi State 78-36 on Wednesday. Missouri (18-6, 7-4 SEC) won for the first time on the road this year as they used a 24-point halftime lead to cruise to a victory. Mizzou will again be on the road this weekend as they will be in Arkansas to play the Razorbacks Saturday.

Funeral services for Mary Jane Slade of Davisville, age 78, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Joseph Segobiano of Rolla, age 74, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.  Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Ft. Leonard Wood.  Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital.

Graveside services for Betty Mae Benton of Rolla, age 64, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla.  Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Spirit F.M. Radio.

Eugene Edwards of Jadwin passed away on February 10th at the age of 65. At Gene's request, his body will be donated to science in hopes of finding a cure for cancer. No memorial service will be held. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Sara Rachelle Conway of Salem, age 25, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday night at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Grace Community Church.

A Celebration of Life for William E. Seay of Salem, age 91, will be held Saturday, February 16th at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Salem Public Library Building Fund.

Funeral services for Berna Deane Gibbs of Salem, age 88, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until service time on Sunday. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery.
