Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker wants to remind everyone your annual assessment forms that list your personal and business property will be coming due on March 1st. Those forms MUST be in the Dent County Assessor’s Office by that day to avoid paying a penalty. All 2014 Assessment list have been mailed out. The items listed in the yellow box is what you were assessed in 2013. If you no longer own some of the items listed on January 1st of 2014, simply draw a line through it. If you have purchased anything new that is not listed and you owned it on January 1st of 2014, simply write it on the bottom and/or the back side of the form where it would apply. If you are a business, please fill out the equipment section where it applies or attach a separate itemized list. You may drop off your assessment list at the assessor’s office at the courthouse and they are open from 8:00 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. There is also a drop box on the front lawn of the courthouse for your convenience if you can’t make it until after hours. You can also mail in your assessment forms. Remember, the forms must be received in the Assessor’s office by Saturday, March 1st or postmarked March 1st to avoid a penalty. If you have lost your assessment list forms, additional blank forms are available at the Dent County Assessor’s Office. If you have any questions, call the Dent County Assessor, Tina Whitaker, at the Dent County Courthouse at 729-6010 or stop by during regular business hours.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a contract to improve nearly two miles of Route J through the city of Salem. Pace Construction Company, LLC of St. Louis submitted the low bid of $758,000. The project includes replacing pavement along Route J from Route 72 to Third Street. Detours will be in place around the work area. The project is scheduled for spring and summer of 2014. The project is funded through a cost-share agreement between MoDOT and the City of Salem. The Dent County Fire Protection District released reports. On Saturday, February 1st at 8:25 pm, a total of seven firefighters were paged to a vehicle accident about a mile and a half down Doss Road and were notified while in route, the call was not needed. On Tuesday, February 4th at 7:34 in the morning The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to a first responder call on County Road 4110 to assist SMDH. A total of three firefighters responded to the call and returned back at the station at 8:11 am. On Thursday, February 6th at 7:00 pm, The Dent County Fire Protection District held its monthly training. At this training all equipment was check for proper operation and approximately 8000 feet was inspected to make sure it was free from damage. Fire training concluded at 10:00 pm with 13 firefighters in attendance. That same night at 10:30 The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to a flue fire in the 400 block of North Park Street. The fire was extinguished and minor damage was reported. The fire department returned to quarters at 11:14pm and 10 firefighters responded to the call. That same night 11:24 The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to a Structure fire in the 100 block of South Carty. When the fire department arrived on scene they found a 1.5 story wood frame structure with heavy smoke inside the residence. After the fire was extinguished the fire department conducted an investigation and found the fire started from a container of grease sitting on the stove. The residence was reported to have major damage. The fire department returned to the station at 12:35 am on Friday, February 7th and 12 firefighters responded. Later that morning at 11:19 The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to a structure fire on Highway HH. Upon arrival the fire department found a singlewide mobile home with nothing showing. After further investigation the property owner had already extinguished the fire. A faulty dryer hose caused the fire. The residence received minor damage. The fire department returned to the station at 11:53 and 8 firefighters responded.

The Salem Lady Tiger basketball team lost to Mountain Grove on Wednesday, 76-56, in SCA play. Savannah Hanning scored 17 points in defeat while Payton Curley added 15 points for Salem, who drops to 7-13 overall and 3-2 in the SCA. The Lady Tiger varsity team will host Viburnum tonight at 6:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The game can also be seen online at fidelitylocal6.com.

The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team fell to Pacific on Wednesday, 71-40. Salem falls to 10-10 on the year but still sit at 3-0 in the SCA. The boys’ varsity team will host Ava tonight at the SHS gym following the Lady Tiger game. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The Missouri Tiger basketball team will host the Arkansas Razorbacks tonight at Mizzou Arena. Missouri is 16-7 on the year and 4-6 in the SEC. Tip off is set for 6:00 and KSMO Radio will not broadcast this game due to the Salem games.

The Kansas City Royals and All Star closer Greg Holland have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration. Holland agreed to a 2014 salary of $4.675 million. The right-hander recorded 47 saves in 2013.The signing of Holland leaves Kansas City with no other unsigned arbitration eligible players for 2014.

Funeral services for Lola Mae Goforth of Bunker, age 84, will be held today at 11:00 at the 1st Baptist Church in Bunker. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the 1st Baptist Church in Bunker. All arrangements are under the direction of the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker.

Funeral services for Jesse F. Reed of Salem, age 83, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum with Full Military Honors.

Graveside services for Marilyn L. Todd of Rolla, age 78, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Broadway Baptist Church Cemetery in St. James. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Fern Quick of Warrenton, formerly of St. James, age 72, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Peggy Regan of Salem, age 75, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Salem Long Term Care.
