The Public Water Supply District #1 has extended the boil order through Tuesday, February 17^th, for the area south of the Salem City limits on Highway 19. A major leak has been repaired and the water sample has been sent off for testing and it will take until Tuesday to get the results. The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Bill Parsons representing BB Bar-B-Que asked the commissioners about the bids to provide meals to the prisoners. Presiding Commissioner Skiles said that the sheriff handles that and that he brought in bids at the last meeting from My Place, Red Hen and Main Street with My Place getting the bid. Parsons asked how to get on the list to bid and Skiles said that he would have to talk with the sheriff. Stan Podorski from KSMO Radio then asked the commission if they would send a letter of support for the Dent County Extension and how much they do for the community through their services, products and instruction. Commissioner Purcell indicated that he was working on a letter Wednesday night that showed the economic impact that the extension has on the community to send to the governor, legislators and the University of Missouri President Forsee. In the road report, District One Commissioner Purcell said that his district received between one and three inches of rain from the storm Tuesday night and Wednesday but there were no washouts. He said that gravel was going to be added to the soft spots on the Stave Mill Road off of Highway 19, and that workers would be draining water off Dent County Road 4110. He said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 6080 and in the Bunker area where materials are also being added as needed. In District Two, Commissioner Gary Larson reported that a driveway washed out at the intersection of it and Dent County Road 2540. He also said that rain created a gulley at the intersection of Dent County Roads 2500 and 2510. He said that the road will need to be raised and a culvert that is clogged up needs to be replaced. Larson stated that gravel would be hauled to a number of roads in the Boss area, and a tree down on Dent County Road 2530 was removed by the road crew. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated that he attended the MRPC meeting Thursday night and that he would be attending the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District meeting on Tuesday at the MRPC. Skiles said that Monday was President’s Day and there would be no Commissioner meeting. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she has completed the financial statements for the county and that they would be published in the Salem News as required by law. The commissioners approved the financial statements. Daniel Halinar from Schafer Manufacturing Group presented a proposal to the commissioners to save money by changing to synthetic lubricants that could save the county about $2,450 per year. No decision was made on the proposal. The commission then talked with Ted Cunningham from the Dent County Extension about their offices possibly moving to the annex. Cunningham stated that the Extension would need five different offices and a reception area as well as a small conference room for 20 to 25 people. Skiles said that if it is decided that the Extension offices needed to move that the current conference room would still be available for their use. Cunningham went on to say that he could not make any decision on the move of the county even if the commissioners agreed that they were the ones that should move. He said that Extension Council Board would have to approve the move, or consider another location or option. Darryl Hay from Viking-Cives Midwest, Inc. discussed snow removal equipment needs with the commissioners as well as dump trucks. Hay said that they have the state contract so that if the county wanted to buy a truck, spreader, snowplow or parts that they would not have to bid it out. He explained that if the county wanted to purchase two dump trucks and other accessories, they could check out their municipal leasing program with up to a five-year term. Commissioner Larson stated that District 2 is in desperate need of a spreader as the one they have no longer works. Hay said that they have a stainless steel spreader with 50-inch sides and a 5.50-yard capacity in stock and could have it by the end of the week. Larson inquired about a carbon steel spreader and Hay compared the two and then gave the prices: $7,375 for the carbon steel spreader and $9,900 for the stainless steel. Hay said that the stainless steel spreader bed would last twice as long as the carbon steel spreader bed, and the commission approved the purchase of the spreader that Larson felt best with after he talked it over with Supervisor Malone. Assessor Brenda Bell then approached the commissioners about a new copy machine for her office. She got two bids and the best bid was for $4,950 for the copier plus $175 for the copier stand from Automated Business Systems in Salem, and the board approved the purchase. The board then discussed and approved the contract from the Salem TCRC to provide the rural address service for the county for the 2009 year for $12,000. Skiles said that the commission will have to rebid the services in September and they may do so for a two or three year period once that is done. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Lady basketball Tigers defeated Licking last night in Newburg, 59-30, and will face St. James in the championship game Saturday at 6:30 in Newburg. Salem is 10-12 on the year.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will host the Mountain View Liberty Eagles tonight in SCA play starting at 7:15. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com. Salem is 10-11 on the year and 3-1 in the SCA.

Jason Arnott sent the game to overtime, scoring with three seconds left in regulation, and Steve Sullivan got the shootout winner as Nashville erased a two-goal deficit in the third period to earn a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Blues. David Backes and Brad Winchester had a goal and an assist each and David Perron also scored for the Blues who will host Chicago tonight at 7:30. KSMO will join the game in progress after Salem Basketball.

The Missouri Tigers will host Nebraska Saturday starting at 12:15 on KSMO. Missouri is 21-4 on the year and 8-2 in the Big 12.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed outfielder Rick Ankiel to a one-year contract Thursday, avoiding arbitration. The former pitcher batted .264 with 25 home runs and 71 RBI in 120 games last season with St. Louis. For his career, he is a .262 hitter and has knocked 38 home runs to go along with 119 RBI in 220 games.

District seeds have been released and the Salem Lady Tigers are seeded 4^th in the district while the Salem Boys are seeded 6^th. The Lady Tigers first district game will be at 6:00 on Monday, February 23^rd at Owensville against Owensville. The winner of that game will face St. James on Wednesday night, February 25^th at 6:00. The Boys first district game will be on February 24^th at 7:30 against Eldon at Owensville. The winner of that game will face Owensville at 7:30 on February 26^th.

Memorials may be made to Camp Brimshire of the Ozark Rivers Chapter of the National Audubon Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cledis Satterfield of Licking, age 81, will be held this Monday at 10:00 at the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Interment will be in the Licking Cemetery.

Funeral services for Jospeh Gilbert of St. James, age 52, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitayion will be from noon until service time on Monday. Interment will be in the Matlock Cemetery in St. James. Memorials may be made to the family of Jospeh Gilbert.
