The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that patch grading was going to be done to brown rock roads between Routes B and N as well as on Dent County Roads 5015 and 6470. He said that materials would be hauled to and patch grading would be done on Dent County Road 6020, and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5550. Purcell did state that a man would be screening brown rock at the shed. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4010 and 4040. He said that workers would also be checking other roads and doing patch grading on those areas in need. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the commissioners were in Jefferson City last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the CCAM training. He wanted to remind everyone that the SACBA volunteer awards dinner would be held on Tuesday, February 26th at 6:30 at the Gathering Place at the Grace Community Church. Tickets are $20 each and available from SACBA Board members and at the Salem TCRC. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to register to vote in the April Municipal Election would be March 6th. She said the courthouse would be closed next Monday and absentee voting would begin on February 19th for the Municipal Election. She also mentioned that sample ballots are now available at her office. Commissioner Larson held the first reading of the petition to vacate the roadway known as Dent County Road 2230 according to state statutes in section 228.110. The petition that was read had 14 signatures on it. Larson indicated that the public notice would be placed in three different locations. The second reading and hearing will be held on March 14th at 10:00 in the commissioner’s office at the Dent County Courthouse to hear testimony on both sides regarding the possible vacating of the road. Dent County Road 2230 is located 5.5 miles north on Highway 72 from Salem, is 30 feet wide and is approximately .57 of a mile. The county is currently receiving CART funds to maintain the road. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the sales tax figures for monies received in February and they were $51,807.82. Last year in February, the county received $67,859.03. Year-to-date, the sales tax for the calendar year is down $8,873.71. At the last meeting, Tonya Sanders and Amy Hyer from the Central Ozarks Private Industry Council came in to discuss getting a letter of support from the county for employment training for their clients. Sandy Hogan with the SB40 Board asked the commission to re-appoint James Coffman and Mary MacFarland to the board for another three-year term that would expire 12/31/15. The commission approved the requests. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Intercounty Electric Cooperative Board President Jim White has announced that on February 6th, the Board of Directors have selected Aaron J. Bradshaw to become the new General Manager. Bradshaw will be leaving his position at VP of Member Services of Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative, Inc. in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. His duties in that position included the many components of managing and operating a distribution cooperative. Bradshaw will assume his new position on March 15th at which time interim General Manager Jack Rinne will step down and continue with his duties as the Manager of Operations and Maintenance.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released their reports. On Saturday, February 2nd at 11:00 in the morning, a deputy was dispatched to County Road 6670 in reference to a burglary.  On arrival the deputy spoke with the victim, which stated that a friend had contacted him and advised that his shed door was open on his fishing cabin property. The victim stated that when he arrived he noticed the following items gone. One blue in color ten speed bicycle, a weed eater, a blue fiberglass 8-foot ladder, a Poulan chainsaw (maroon in color), and approximately 12-15 dusk to dawn landscape lights. On Wednesday, February 6th, deputies responded to a report of stealing. The victim, a 62-year old Salem male, stated that a Stihl chainsaw valued at $539 was taken without the owner's consent. Suspect information was given and the investigation continues. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary or theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital will be conducting their 1st 2013 Health Fair on Wednesday, February 13th and Thursday, February 14th from 6:00 to 9:00 am in the Outpatient Area. The Health Profile will be offered at a cost of $30. They will also be offering a thyroid, cardiac, glucose, urine and PSA tests for $10 each, bone density will be $25 and body fat percentage and blood pressure will be at no charge. The Salem Lady Tigers lost to Thayer on Monday, 73-59. Emily Moser scored 23 points while Savannah Hanning added 16 points for the Lady Tigers, who are now 9-14 on the year and 2-4 in the SCA. Salem will host Mountain View/ Liberty on Thursday starting with JV at 6:00.

The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will be in Thayer tonight to try and keep their SCA title hopes alive. Salem is 4-1 in the SCA and 10-12 overall. The JV will get started at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. You’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Jeff Carter recorded a pair of goals and Jonathan Bernier delivered a solid first start of the season as the Los Angeles Kings dealt the struggling St. Louis Blues a 4-1 loss at the Scottrade Center. Alex Steen accounted for the lone goal for the Blues, who failed to avenge last season's four-game sweep at the hands of Los Angeles in the Western Conference semifinals. Brian Elliott, subbing for a still-ailing Jaroslav Halak, managed just 19 saves in the setback. St. Louis had activated Halak, who missed the club's previous three losses with a groin strain, from injured reserve prior to the game. However, he aggravated the injury during pregame warmups and was held out. The Blues will be in Detroit to face the Red Wings on Wednesday.

Funeral services for Donald Humphrey of Salem, age 57, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be held at the dry Fork Cemetery with full military honors.

Funeral services for Trevin E. Bond of Hillsboro, age 92, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the Salem Chapel of the Wilson Mortuary. Interment will be in the Kissock Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research.

Funeral services for Mary Jane Slade of Davisville, age 78, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday night from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Joseph Segobiano of Rolla, age 74, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Ft. Leonard Wood.  Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital.

A Celebration of Life for William E. Seay of Salem, age 91, will be held Saturday, February 16th at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Salem Public Library Building Fund.
