The Dent County Commissioners met Monday for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the sales tax report for the money received in February and she said the county received $55,439.21, and year to date, the county is up over the first two months of 2013 by $5,827.97 with a total receipts of near $118,000. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said workers would be servicing the 924 Cat Loader and also treating slick spots where necessary on the roads. Purcell stated that if the new grader blades come in, workers would be replacing blades. The blades were supposed to be delivered last Friday. Commissioner Gary Larson said workers in District 2 would be doing virtually the same as they are in District 1 except instead of servicing a loader, the work crew will be servicing truck #68. Dent County Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the commissioners would be attending their annual training on Thursday so there will be no meeting that day or on Monday, February 17th. Monday is President’s Day and the courthouse would be closed. Sandie Hogan from the SB40 Board came in and told the commissioners she had two people interested in filling the vacant seat on the SB40 Board: Joyce Jones and Shawn Bolerjack. After a short discussion, the Commissioners voted 3-0 to appoint Bolerjack to the board for a three-year term. At the last meeting, the commission agreed to take bids on culverts and grader blades. The bids will be due at 10:00 in the morning on Thursday, February 27th in the county clerk’s office at the courthouse. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be held on Thursday, February 20th at 9:00 at the courthouse.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital will conduct a General Health Screening on Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 13th from 6:00 to 9:00 am in the outpatient surgery area. They will offer a health fair profile for $30 and fasting is required for this test. Tests for diabetes, thyroid function, kidney function and prostate specific antigen will be offered for $10 each and a bone density test will also be offered for $35. They will check your blood pressure and body fat percentage for FREE. For more information regarding the General Health Screening, call the hospital at 729-6626. 

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Thursday, January 30th at 1:50 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 37-year oldSalem female for stealing merchandise valued at $87.49. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Friday, January 31st at 11:15 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that someone threw a rock, breaking a window of the residence valued at $100. Later that night at 8:28, an officer transported a 54-year old Salem male to the New Hope Psych facility in Sullivan, in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Saturday, February 1st at 2:13 in the afternoon, an officer transported a 27-year old Park Hills male to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Sunday, February 2nd at 9:46 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the Fifth Street Pub in reference to a disturbance involving an intoxicated subject. That investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same night at 10:35, an officer was dispatched to Park and Fourth Streets in reference to a motor vehicle crash. The investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, February 4th at 11:09 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone took a green 1999 Chrysler Sirius, valued at $600, parked near a residence in the 800 block of East First. That night at 10:30, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a laptop computer, valued at $350, from a residence in the 400 block of South Askins. On Saturday, February 8th at 12:45 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Phil-Mart in reference to theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a green Jeep pumped $5.01 in fuel and left without paying. Anyone with any info regarding the property damage, stolen vehicle or theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter volunteers are assisting a four-member Salem family after fire destroyed their mobile home Saturday. Two Dent County volunteers met with the family, who lived on Highway H, Monday morning and provided financial resources for them to meet their immediate emergency needs with the purchase of food and clothing. Family members, four adults, also received Red Cross comfort kits, which contain personal hygiene items, and referrals to local partner agencies. The family’s insurance company provided for a motel stay.

The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will be in Cabool tonight to face the Bulldogs in SCA play. Salem is 9-9 on the year and 2-0 in the SCA. JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that the club has released veteran cornerback Dunta Robinson. Robinson has played in 139 games in 10 NFL seasons with the Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs.

Funeral services for Jerry ‘Beef Steak’ Sutton of Salem, age 78, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Daniel G. Reinken of Steelville, age 52, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ray Colvin of Rolla, age 85, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 tonight.

Funeral services for Lola Mae Goforth of Bunker, age 84, will be held Thursday at the 1st Baptist Church in Bunker. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5:00 until 8:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the 1st Baptist Church in Bunker.

Funeral services for Jesse F. Reed of Salem, age 83, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum with Full Military Honors.
