The Public Water Supply District #1 has issued a boil order through Thursday for the area south of the Salem city limits on Highway 19. A major leak has been repaired and the water has been sent off for testing and it will take two days to get the results. Again, the Public Water Supply District #1 has issued a boil order for the area south of the city limits of Salem on Highway 19 through Thursday.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, February 6^th at 3:15 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of North Jackson in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had entered a dwelling owned by Citizens Bank of Newburg and removed a rug valued approximately $650.00. At 11:30 p.m. that evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem woman for the traffic violation and driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Saturday, February 7^th 7:15 a.m. an officer was detailed to the 400 block of East Rooseveltin reference to an assault. The report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem man for the assault. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday, February 8^th 2:00 a.m. an officer received information of illegal drugs being sold from a residence in the 800 block of East First Street. The report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem woman for possession of narcotics, paraphernalia and heroin. She was incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. At  6:15 p.m. that evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Ray Lane in reference to a stolen cell phone valued at $200.00. Anyone with information on the thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police at 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports for last week. On Thursday, February 2^nd at 3:00 pm, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out to Hidden Valley Estates to assist the Dent County Sheriff's Department with a brush fire. Upon arrival there was about 1 acre on fire. The fire was brought under control at 3:22 and all seven firefighters returned to station at 3:55. At 5:28 that evening, Dent County Fire was paged out to AutoZone due to smoke coming from an electrical box. Upon arrival the Dent County Fire Department had the electricity turned off to investigate where the smoke was originating from. The smoke was due to a burned out fuse. The Dent County firemen brought the scene under control at 5:47 and returned to the station at 6:28 with six firefighters responding. On Saturday, February 8^th at 10:35 am, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out to assist the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Upon arrival, Dent County Fire First Responders assisted the hospital and were back to the base at 11:09 and had 6 firefighters respond. At 2:53 that afternoon, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged to set up a secure Landing Zone at the Fire Department’s lot. Air Evac 13 landed at 3:38, loaded the patient and cleared the scene at 3:51. Thirteen firefighters responded to the call. Later that afternoon at 4:08, firemen were paged out to the 700 block of McGrath Lane due to a bed on fire. Upon arrival, there was heavy smoke coming from the residence. The scene was brought under control at 4:18. After the investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be by an electric blanket shorting out. Ladder 81 and all nine firefighters returned to the station at 4:49. At 5:33 that same evening, the fire fighters were paged out to Highway P due to a brush fire. Upon arrival the fire was determined to be a controlled burn. The Fire department disregarded the call and returned to the station at 6:01 as a total of nine firefighters responded to the call.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to remind the public that driver examination stations throughout the state would be closed in
observance of Lincoln’s Birthday tomorrow. Normal operations will resume on Friday. And also on Washington’s Birthday that will be observed on Monday, February 16^th. Normal operations will resume Tuesday, February 17^th.

Justin Shipp scored 30 points for the Thayer Bobcats as they beat the Salem Tigers Tuesday night by the score of 53-40 at the Thayer High School Gym. Salem was led in scoring by C.J. Smith with 14 points and Zach Pitchford with 10 more. Salem falls to 10-11 on the year and 3-1 in the SCA. Thayer remains undefeated in the SCA with a 4-0 record. Salem will host the Mountain View/Liberty Eagles this Friday night. The Eagles are also undefeated in SCA play.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers upset Dixon Monday night at the Newburg Tournament and move on to the semi-finals against the Licking Lady Wildcats starting at 8:30 Thursday night. Salem was seeded 7^th in the tournament while Dixon was seeded 2^nd. The Lady Tigers are now 9-12 on the year.

District seeds have been released and the Salem Lady Tigers are seeded 4^th in the district while the Salem Boys are seeded 6^th. The Lady Tigers first district game will be at 6:00 on Monday, February 23^rd at Owensville against Owensville. The winner of that game will face St. James on Wednesday night, February 25^th at 6:00. The Boys first district game will be on February 24^th at 7:30 against Eldon at Owensville. The winner of that game will face Owensville at 7:30 on February 26^th.

Jannik Hansen scored the game-winning goal with 4:42 remaining in regulation, as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the St. Louis Blues, 6-4, at Scottrade Center. Brad Boyes, Keith Tkachuk, Steve Wagner and Andy McDonald scored for the Blues, who failed to record at least a point for the first time in their last six games overall (3-1-2). Chris Mason allowed five goals on 29 shots in the loss. McDonald returned to the Blues' lineup for his first game since November 16. He had been out with a fractured left leg. St. Louis fell to 13-11-4 as the host this season and will be on the road at Nashville Thursday night at 7:00.

The Kansas City Royals have signed pitcher Jamey Wright to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. They also signed outfielder Eric Shortell and pitcher Dan Cevette to minor league contracts.

Funeral services for Willa Mae Yocom of Davisville, age 88, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Steelville Cemetery Association.        

Funeral services for Harry E. Cassidy of Salem, age 86, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday night. Interment will be in the Hutson-Walker Cemetery in Sligo. Memorials may be made to the Hutson-Walker Cemetery.

Memorials services for Hal M. Huff of St. James, age 75, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the St. James United Methodist Church in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Camp Brimshire of the Ozark Rivers Chapter of the National Audubon Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
