The Salem Police Department released their reports involving fugitive warrants and a disturbance. On January 16^th at 10:26 in the morning, an officer contacted a 61-year old female of Licking and placed her under arrest on a fugitive warrant from Phelps County. She posted bond, was released and given a date to appear in court. On January 18^th at 10:59 in the evening, an office was sent to the area of Ellis and Warfel in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of seven minors and three juveniles for minors in possession of alcohol. A 20-year old Salem male was placed under arrest for disorderly house. The adults were issued summons to appear in court and the juveniles were released to their parents and will be referred to the juvenile officer. That same evening at 11:55, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to a fight in progress. The report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Vichy male on a fugitive warrant from Maries County-Vienna. He was unable to post bond and was incarcerated pending extradition.

The Dent Count Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their meeting on Tuesday, February 5^th. After the approval of the consent agenda, during the review of minutes, it was noted that the Fire District has three positions open for the April election. There is one 6-year term in which Stanley McElfresh is being opposed by Matthew Pappert; one 5-year term with Grant Hamlet being opposed by Craig Smith; and one 4-year term where Elizabeth Greundel is unopposed. During the financial report, the bills were reviewed and paid, the truck payment has been mailed and received, and the Deed of Release for the district building has been received and recorded at the Dent County Recorders office. The Dent County Fire Protection District reports a total of 46 calls were completed in January. Of these calls, 25% were ambulance assists and motor vehicle accidents. In old business, Board President Grant Hamlet reported on the Sunshine Law updates and changes from the class he attended. He also reported that he had drafted a policy as requested for news releases and asked that the Board review it for the next meeting. Fire Chief Brad Nash reported that Engine #83 had a pump shaft problem and needed to be sent for repair. Nash also reported that five firemen went to Jefferson City to test for Hazmat Awareness and Operations. All but one  fireman passed both tests. It was noted that the fireman that did not pass, was given the wrong test by testers, and will be allowed to retest at a later date. Nash also reported that a USDA grant, if received, would cover 55% with the District paying 45%. Of this 45%, a good portion could be in-kind. The next meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will be held on Tuesday, March 4^th at #2 South Main beginning at 6:00 pm.

An accident occurred at 5:19 Saturday night in Phelps County on Highway 72 about eight miles south of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Ford Mustang driven by 42-year old Karren Ganschinietz of Salem, traveled off the left side of the roadway as Ganschinietz fell asleep. She then over-corrected, causing the Mustang to travel off the right side of the road where it struck an embankment. Ganschinietz suffered minor injuries and was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center by Phelps County Ambulance. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Mustang sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. No citations were issued in the accident.

An accident happened Sunday afternoon in Dent County at 1:45 on Route B about a mile east of Highway 19. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 28-year old William Copeland of Bunker, went off the right side of the roadway. Copeland then overcorrected and the Malibu went off the left side of the road and overturned where the vehicle came to rest on its top. Copeland suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident and the Malibu was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

Natalie Howard scored 23 points to help lead the Salem Lady Tigers to a come-from-behind win over the Fatima Lady Comets Saturday night in the Newburg Tournament, 44-42. Allison Jones scored 10 points for Salem to help them improve to 17 and 6 on the year. Salem is scheduled to face the Ava Lady Bears tonight in an SCA contest starting at 6:00 at the SHS Gym. Taylor Sirois scored 21 points and captured nine rebounds to lift the Salem Tigers to a 74-52 win over the Mountain Grove Panthers in SCA play. Salem also received double digit scoring from Zach Pitchford with 16 points, Cody Wofford with 15 points and C.J. Smith with 13 points. Salem had 14 steals in the game while only turning the ball over 12 times. Salem is 17-6 on the year and 4-1 in the SCA. They are scheduled to play Ava tomorrow night in their final home game of the year.

Donald Sloan scored 21 points, while Bryan Davis and Josh Carter donated 14 apiece in 18th-ranked Texas A&M's 77-69 victory over Missouri in Big 12 action. The Aggies (20-4, 6-3 Big 12) controlled the backboards and made more free throws than Missouri in saddling the Tigers (13-11, 3-6) with a home defeat. Leo Lyons led Missouri with 24 points and Keon Lawrence donated 13 points. Justin Safford totaled 10 points for the Tigers. Missouri will face Nebraska Wednesday night.

Mike Ribeiro posted a goal and two assists, as the Dallas Stars thumped the St. Louis Blues, 6-2, at American Airlines Center Saturday night as Jamal Mayers had a goal and an assist for the Blues. Then on Sunday night, Brent Burns scored the game-winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout as the Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, at Scottrade Center. Manny Legace made 24 stops for the Blues who have lost four straight games. They will host Los Angeles Tuesday night.

Funeral services for Marie H. Koboldt of St. Louis, age 90, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 Peace Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 to 7:00 at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rolla.

Funeral services for Carl Gibbs Sr. of St. Charles, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be Thursday at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery.
