The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that brush would cut on Dent County Roads 5360, 6400 and 5410. He said that materials would be added to Dent County Road 6090 and that a crossover pipe is going to be replaced on Dent County Road 5510. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that even though it is wet, grading was going to be attempted on Dent County Roads 2630, 3180, 4283 and 4285. Larson stated that materials were going to be added to Dent County Road 2200 and also on Dent County Road 2340 where grading will also be done. Larson indicated that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 3120. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles presided over a Public Housing Authority meeting Thursday and also attended the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting at the MRPC. All three commissioners attended the Dent County Cattlemen’s Annual “Meet Your Legislators” night at the Bank of Salem Courtesy Room on Thursday night. Skiles announced that the sales tax received in February was $3,300 more than February of 2011, and for the year to date, the sales tax increase over last year’s figure is $500.03. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that her office and the treasurer balanced on all accounts for January. She said that the last day to register to vote for the April Municipal election would be on March 7^th. At the last meeting, Curt Faigle from the Road Rally brought in their “letter of insurance” certificate and the commissioners signed a letter of support for the rally. The Commissioners also reviewed the collector’s abatements, collections and add-ons for the month of January. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

The 24th Annual Missouri Youth Livestock Grading/Judging Workshop/Contest will be held on Saturday, March 10^th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Trowbridge Livestock Center in Columbia. The workshop is open to ages 8-14 and there will be a $6 fee. The contest is open to ages 10-18 (teams of 4 or individual) and there will also be a $6 fee. A completed registration form and $6 fee must be post-marked by TODAY. There will be no refunds or on-site registrations accepted, but substitutions may be made at check-in.

Turkey hunters have until February 29^th to apply for managed hunts during Missouri’s 2012 spring turkey season. All 19 managed turkey hunts are listed in the “2012 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information" booklet. The booklet and website have application instructions, outlook information on Missouri’s turkey population, conservation areas where turkey hunting is allowed, related regulations and more. The print version of the booklet will be available from hunting permit vendors and at Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) offices in mid-February. In addition to 11 hunts open to all firearms turkey hunters, this year’s offerings include a managed hunt for archers, five hunts for youths age 11 through 15 and two hunts for people with disabilities. Managed hunts will take place during the youth turkey season, March 31^st to April 1^st, or regular turkey season, April 16^th through May 6^th. Hunters may apply individually or in groups of up to three for most hunts. Successful applicants will receive notice of their hunt dates and other information by mail. Drawing results will be posted March 14^th through May 6^th. The number of hunters allowed to take part in each managed hunt ranges from 10 to 40. The bag limit for managed hunts is one male turkey or turkey with visible beard. Turkeys taken during a managed hunt count toward the season limit of two.
