The Dent County Sheriff’s Department made a second drug investigation in the Bunker area and arrested 46-year old Kenneth Benton, Sr. and 44-year old Veronica Benton of Bunker on February 2^nd, and arrested a third person, 17-year old Sabrina Evans of Bunker on February 4^th. According to the Dent County Sheriff’s Department case notes, Veronica was charged with two felony counts of distribution of a controlled substance, two felony charges of the manufacturing of a controlled substance, a felony charge for keeping or maintaining a public nuisance, a felony charge for possession of methamphetamine, and felony charges of possession of a methamphetamine precursor with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine. She is being held in the Dent County Jail on a $30,000 bond. Kenneth Barton, Sr. was charged with a felony possession of methamphetamine and is incarcerated in the Dent County jail on a $15,000 bond. Evans was charged with a felony count of manufacturing methamphetamine and a felony count of keeping or maintaining a public nuisance. Evans was incarcerated and is being held on a $20,000 cash only bond in the Dent County Jail. Warrants have been requested on two other individuals who are allegedly involved in the case.

Licking voters approved a new sales tax Tuesday for local parks including a swimming pool. The unofficial results showed 156 yes votes to 43 no votes. The one-half of one percent sales tax will pay for a community pool that's scheduled to be built in Deer Lick Park. The pool will cost an estimated $1.3 million and is scheduled to be open by Memorial Day 2012.

An accident occurred at 6:40 Wednesday morning in Phelps County on I-44 eastbound about a tenth of a mile east of Jerome. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Nissan Sentra driven by 21-year old Rachael Kissir of Salem, slid on the ice and snow covered roadway, traveled off the left side of the road, and struck the median barrier. Kissir suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Nissan Sentra sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by C&C Towing of Rolla.

An accident occurred at 8:20 Monday evening in Texas County on Kitchen Drive about two miles east of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Mercury Montego driven by 49-year old Thomas Glenn of Licking, was traveling westbound on Kitchen Drive. The Mercury slid off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and overturned. Glenn suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Mercury Montego was totaled and removed from the scene by A1 Towing of Houston.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the MRPC office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James beginning at 7:30 pm. After approval of the agenda and several contracts, Tammy Snodgrass will have a presentation on the Statewide Electric Cooperatives Hazard Mitigation Planning through Missouri’s Regional Planning Commissions. Donald Dodd will then report on the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting, Tammy Snodgrass will report on solid waste activities, Kraig Bone will report on MREPC activities, Tom Klebba will report on business loan activities and T.R. Dudley will report on workforce development activities. Chairman Russell Scheulen and Director Richard Cavender will then reports on issues of interest. The University of Missouri Extension will host a “Winter Grazing Workshop” at the University of Missouri Wurdack Farm from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesday, February 23rd. This workshop is designed to teach and demonstrate the benefits of grazing stockpiled fescue during the winter months and participants will be provided class room instruction as well as the “hands-on” training necessary to successfully winter graze. Topics for the workshop will include how to grow and manage stockpiled fescue, feed value of stockpile, meeting the nutritional requirements of various classes of beef cattle with stockpile, allocation and feeding of stockpile, winter fence and water systems, and stockpiling economics. Additionally, participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to tour two farms that are grazing stockpiled tall fescue. Cost of the workshop is $20 per person, which covers the cost of materials, a hot lunch, and refreshments. Class size is limited, and reservations are required by February 18th.
