Following collaborative work involving four law enforcement agencies, a Cabool man is in jail and faces multiple charges related to unlawful sexual actions. Texas County Sheriff James Sigman said Scott D. Baker, 45, was arrested Monday and charged with felony enticement of a child and misdemeanor furnishing of pornographic materials to a minor. Sigman said the TCSD, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cabool Police Department and Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted a joint investigation after receiving information that Baker was communicating with an underage female. The investigation revealed Baker was having illegal wireless conversations and providing pornographic pictures to the juvenile, the sheriff said. Baker is being held at the Texas County Jail on $1 million bond.
The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of January. During the month, they wrote five equipment repair orders, 17 summons to appear in court, 19 warning tickets, and 38 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 12 accidents, one assault of a law officer, one assault, two burglaries, seven reports of counterfeiting, one report of domestic violence, four reports of driving while intoxicated, three reports of driving while revoked, three reports of fraudulent use of a credit and/or debit device, one report of harassment, three reports of leaving the scene of an accident, one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants and one report of a minor in possession of tobacco. The department also investigated two reports of a missing person, one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, one report of a parole violation, one report of a peace disturbance, five reports of property damage, three reports of resisting and/or interfering with an arrest, one report of stalking, 19 reports of stealing, one report of a suicide, three reports of trespassing, and one 96-hour commitment. They also investigated one report of possession of amphetamine and two reports of possession of drug paraphernalia. The police department received 1,549 calls for service during the month, handled 110 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 57 calls to the animal control officer. They spent eight hours in court testifying, four hours as court bailiff and spent 20 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in January included 35 calls for escorts, one call for an intoxicated driver, one call for a prowler, five calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, four calls for intoxicated pedestrians, two calls for domestic disputes, and four calls for a wrecker. There were seven 911 calls, five calls for a peace disturbance, seven calls for alarms sounding, 11 ambulance assist calls, and one fire call. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,356 miles and arrested 20 males and 6 females during the month of January.
The Missouri Department of Transportation would like the public to be aware of roadwork that continues the rest of this week in our area. In Crawford County, roadside maintenance will take place through Friday on Route 8 between Route 19 and Route Y, on Route F between I-44 and McDade Springs Road, Route N between Possum Hollow Road and the Bourbon city limits, and on Route V between Route 49 and Route Y. In Phelps County, culvert pipe replacement will take place from this Thursday until next Thursday on Route HH between Route 3 and the end of state maintenance. Chad Elliott scored 32 points leading the Salem Tigers to an important 70-63 win over the Cabool Bulldogs Tuesday night at the SHS gym. With the win, Salem goes to 3-1 in the SCA and keeps their hopes of an SCA title alive. Brady Floyd added 17 points in the win as Salem improves to 9-12 on the year. They will be at Willow Springs Friday night in another key SCA game. The JV, who defeated Cabool Tuesday by the score of 43-26, will start play at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. Martin Erat had a goal and two assists and Colin Wilson added three helpers to help the Nashville Predators in a 6-1 rout of the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. Alex Pietrangelo scored the lone goal of the game for the Blues, who have dropped two straight for the first time this season. Brian Elliott was pulled near the midpoint of the second period after giving up four goals on 11 shots. Jake Allen stopped 6-of-8 shots in relief. The Blues will host the Detroit Red Wings Thursday night at 7:00 at the Scottrade Center.
The career of St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter may be in jeopardy going forward. At a Tuesday press conference, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak revealed he doesn't expect the former Cy Young award winner to pitch for the team this upcoming season, calling it "very unlikely" as the 37-year-old continues to have discomfort from last year's medical issues. Over his 15-year career, Carpenter has pitched more than 2200 innings in amassing a 144-94 overall record and a career 3.76 earned run average with the Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays.
The St. Louis Rams claimed problematic wide receiver Titus Young off waivers Tuesday. Young had spent the past two years with the Detroit Lions, who drafted him in the second round of the 2011 draft. After an impressive rookie campaign, Young did not play in the Lions' final six regular season games in 2012 as a result of causing problems with the team's coaching staff. A day after getting into an altercation with wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson in a contest against the Packers, Young was sent home from practice by head coach Jim Schwartz. He was then held out of Detroit's next two contests before being shelved for the season when the team placed him on the injured reserve list. Young ended the campaign with 33 catches for 383 yards and four touchdowns.
