Chad Elliott scored 27 points Friday night to lead the Salem Tigers past the Cabool Bulldogs in a see-saw second half that saw 14 lead changes, 60-59. Salem trailed by 10 at halftime, then started the 3rd quarter with an 11-0 run to set up the close second half. Jacob Kettner added 10 points for Salem as they won their fifth straight game and are 10-11 on the year and 2-1 in the SCA. Salem will host Willow Springs on Tuesday.
The Salem Tiger Benchwarmers will be having a Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday, February 7th during the Salem Boys JV/Varsity home games. KSMO Radio has donated six tickets to the Missouri and Oklahoma State game on February 15th that will be raffled off to benefit the fight against cancer. All fans are being asked to wear a “White Shirt” to help “WhiteOut Cancer.” There will be an “In Honor Of or In Memory Of” tree. In addition, players and coaches will be playing and/or coaching that evening in honor of or in memory of someone affected by cancer.
The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be playing in the Newburg Tournament starting tonight against the Cuba Lady Wildcats at 5:30. Salem is seeded 5th in the tournament. The Lady Tigers enter the game with a 4-16 record and have lost their last two games.
Pekka Rinne made 18 of his 41 saves in the third period, as the Nashville Predators took down the St. Louis Blues, 3-1 Saturday night. Chris Porter had the lone unassisted goal for the Blues who beat the Los Angeles Kings Friday night, 1-0 on a goal by Jamie Langenbrunner. Juraslav Halak was in goal for both games getting his fifth shutout of the year Friday night, then allowed two goals on 36 shots Saturday. The Blues will be back in action Tuesday night when they will be at Ottawa.
Marcus Denmon's personal surge late in regulation boosted No. 4 Missouri to a 74-71 win over eighth-ranked Kansas in the Border Showdown. Denmon, who scored nine straight points during Missouri's game-ending 13-0 spurt, canned three straight three-pointers, including the one that gave the Tigers a 72-71 edge in the final minute. Denmon ended with 29 points as Missouri (21-2, 8-2 Big 12) won its third in a row to tie the Jayhawks and Baylor atop the conference standings. Kim English added 18 points for the Tigers. Missouri will be at Oklahoma tonight at 5:30 on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Woodrow T. Lewis of Salem, age 96, will be Tuesday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Internment will be in the Rector Cemetery in Shannon County.
Funeral services for Brenda Bowers of Springfield, age 63, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery in Salem.
Funeral services for Elmer "Red" Mahurin of Salem are incomplete at this time. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
