Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings reports that the sheriff's office received a phone call at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday about a pickup truck abandoned about one-half mile down County Road 3300. A Dent County deputy responded and upon arrival ran the license plate and determined ownership of the vehicle. There was no obvious damage to the pickup. The owner was contacted and the vehicle was secured at the owner's request until the owner could pick up the pickup. At 5:00 pm, the owner came into the Sheriff's Department and picked up the key to his vehicle. The owner stated that the vehicle was apparently stolen out of Rolla and then abandoned here in Dent County. Sheriff Stallings also reported that on Tuesday evening a Dent County deputy went to an antique store in Rolla and recovered numerous items that had been stolen from a residence on Highway 68 in Dent County. The deputy recovered 23 pieces of forest green Depression glass, six pieces of crystal, and 32 pieces of royal ruby Depression glass, approximately half of the items taken in a recent burglary. The victim came to the Sheriff's Department and  positively identified the Depression glass and crystal as her property.  The property was then released to the victim.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Wednesday, January 28th at 12:30 a.m. an officer was sent to the 1800 block of   South Oak in reference to a burglary. The report reveled that a person or persons unknown had forced their way into the residence earlier in the evening and took 2 DVD players and a Cell phone. The total dollar amount of the theft was $180. On Friday, January 30th 3:00 p.m. an officer was detailed to Country Mart in reference to forged checks. The report led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem man and a 22-year old Salem man on the forged checks. Both men were incarcerated pending the issuance of warrants. At 3:04 p.m. that same afternoon, an officer contacted a 42-year old Salem man in the 100 block of West Fourth Street in reference to a warrant. He was placed under arrest on a felony warrant from Crawford County. He was able to post bond on the warrant and was released to appear in court. On Saturday, January 31st at 1:00 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of South Carty in reference to a domestic disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem woman for disorderly conduct. She was incarcerated on the charge. On Monday, February 2nd at 8:31 a.m. an officer was detailed to the Ranch Motel in reference to property damage. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown had damaged the soda machine bill validation. Anyone with information on the theft or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is ask to contact the Salem Police at 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, February 1st at 1:41 pm, the firemen were paged out due to a structure fire at County Road 4237 to the home of Salem Police Officer Bobby Simpson. Upon arrival there was heavy smoke coming out of the structure. The cause of the fire was investigated by the State Fire Marshals office & determined to be accidental, and was believed to have started in the electrical components in the kitchen wall. The fire was brought under control at 2:10 but the home was a total loss. A total of 14 firefighters responded. A trust fund to help the Simpson family has been set up at Town & Country Bank. At 2:38 that same afternoon, The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out due to a structure fire in the 800 block of Askins. Upon arrival there was heavy smoke coming out of the structure. Mutual-aid was called in from the Jadwin Fire Department for manpower. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshals office. Dent County Fire Protection District brought the scene under control at 3:02 with a total of 14 firefighters responding to the call and the Jadwin Fire Department had four firefighters respond. At 7:49 that evening, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out due to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 19 south. The Dent County Fire Protection District assisted the Salem Memorial District Hospital and returned to the station at 8:19. A total of 8 firefighters responded to the call.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host the Mountain View/Liberty Lady Eagles tonight in SCA Play. The JV game begins at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. The Lady Tigers enter the game with a 7-11 record and 2-1 in the SCA. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoraio.com.

Zaire Taylor's three-point play with 5.5 seconds left proved to be the difference, as the Missouri Tigers dealt 16th-ranked Texas a 69-65 loss, the Longhorns' second straight defeat at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center. Taylor had 17 points in total for the Tigers (19-4, 6-2 Big 12), who have won six of seven overall. Leo Lyons posted 14 points, while DeMarre Carroll had 13 in the win. J.T. Tiller provided 10 points and five assists for Missouri. Missouri will play Iowa State Saturday at 4:30 on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Edmonton Oilers tonight at the Scottrade Center at 7:30. The Blues have won three of the last four games and have points in five of their last six games. KSMO will join the game in progress after the Salem Lady Tiger Basketball game.

St. Louis Blues have assigned defenseman Andy Wozniewski to the Peoria Rivermen. He was brought up when the Blues suffered some injuries on defense.

The Kansas City Royals signed pitcher Brian Bannister to a one-year contract for 2009, avoiding arbitration. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. The 27-year-old right-hander went 9-16 with a 5.76 earned run average in 32 starts for the Royals last year. In 2007, Bannister went 12-9 in 27 games with a 3.87 ERA and finished third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting.

Funeral services for Daniel R. Williams of Salem, age 71 will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Salem Library.

Funeral services for Dorothy Alberta Harman of Gig Harbor, Washington, formerly of Steelville, age 86, will be held today at 2:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Graveside services for Patricia Gladys Murphy of Salem, age 92, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Miner Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Miner Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Maybel Marie Ousley of Rolla, age 95, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Funeral Mass for Emma Agnes Smith of Viburnum, age 86, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 11:00 until Mass time. Interment will be in the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.

Memorial services for Anthony Joseph Catalano III, of Rolla, age 17, will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the Salem Full Gospel Church in Salem.
