The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers overcame a poor second quarter with a strong second half and came back to beat the Thayer Bobcats Friday night, 64-48. Salem was led in scoring by Taylor Sirois with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Salem also had double figure scoring from Solomon McNeal, C.J. Smith and Cody Wofford who all tallied 11 points each. Salem moves to 3-0 in the SCA and 10-9 overall. Salem will host the Mountain View/Liberty Eagles tomorrow night starting at 6:00 with the JV game followed by the varsity contest at about 7:20.
The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers are the first seed in the Newburg Tournament and have drawn a bye for the first round. Their first game of the tournament will be Thursday against either Viburnum or Newburg.
Marcus Perry scored 15 points to lead the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a 66-61 victory over the Missouri Tigers in a Big 12 showdown from the Mizzou Arena. Keon Lawrence netted 18 points for Missouri (13-8, 2-6), while Darryl Butterfield chipped in 10 points and pulled down six boards in the loss. Nebraska shot 43.2% from the floor in the contest, while Missouri posted a dismal 37% shooting effort from the field.
Manny Legace made 22 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, as the St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars, 2-0, at Scottrade Center. Martin Rucinsky and Keith Tkachuk scored the goals for the Blues, who ended a three-game slide. Doug Weight added a pair of assists for St. Louis, which has won five of eight. Marty Turco made 17 saves for the Stars, who had a two-game win streak halted and ended a four-game road trip 2-2.
Peyton Manning finally has his championship. Manning threw for 247 yards and a touchdown, as the Colts rallied from the shock of an opening 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Devin Hester and an early eight-point deficit to beat the Chicago Bears, 29-17, in a turnover-laden Super Bowl XLI. The teams combined for eight turnovers, five from the Bears, including a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown from Indianapolis' Kelvin Hayden in the fourth quarter. Manning, who completed his ninth season in the NFL, was named the game's MVP and helped the Colts (16-4) to their first title since Super Bowl V, following the 1970 season, when the team was in Baltimore.

Funeral services for Bob Rinne of Licking, age 70, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the Boone Creek Baptist Church with Dr. James Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Boone Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.
Funeral services for James “Jimmy” Lee Miskell of Salem, age 67 will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.
Funeral services for Thelma Bernadean Holland of House Springs, age 81, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Corinth Cemetery.
