The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a shoplifter, a traffic violation and theft. On Thursday night, January 22nd at 8:57, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report revealed a person or persons unknown took a four camera security system valued $299.99. On Friday, January 23rd at 7:13 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 36-year old female of Salem for possession of synthetic narcotics. She was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, January 24th at 12:00 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 29-year old male of Salem for possession of amphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later that night at 10:20, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed a patron had left a cell phone valued at $400.00 on a shelf at the AutoZone located at 501 West Highway 32. When the patron returned to get it, it had been stolen.  Anyone with any information regarding the shoplifter or the theft, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242. 

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office have released some reports. On Sunday, January 25th at 5:00 in the early evening, a 67-year old woman called and reported that a gold bracelet had been stolen from her residence on Dent County Road 4110. On Friday, January 30th, deputies responded to the 11000 block of Route H for a report of a possible trespassing. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a 55-year old white male from Lenox to be the reporting party. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the male was a convicted felon and was in possession of a firearm. On Sunday night, February 1st at 10:00, the Sheriff's Office received a call in regards to a vehicle being on fire near Dent County Road 3290. Deputies responded to the area and observed a passenger car fully engulfed in flames. After further investigation it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen out of Rolla. The Dent County Fire Department extinguished the fire and Whitaker's Towing removed the vehicle from the scene. On Monday, February 2nd, Mrs. Alicia Steelman came into the Sheriff's Office to report that someone had stolen her purse out of her vehicle. It was believed that the purse was taken while the vehicle was parked at the Roadhouse in Salem. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen bracelet or the stolen purse, which are still under investigation, is asked to please call the Dent County Sheriff’s Office at 729-3241.

"Whooo is out there?" Owls have fascinated mankind for centuries, from the wise owl of the Greek goddess Athena to Winnie the Pooh’s friend. To learn more about these creatures of  the night, join rangers from Ozark National Scenic Riverways on an Owl Prowl at 5:30 PM on Saturday, February 7th, beginning at the Alley General Store. The public will learn facts and folklore about these little understood hunters of the night. Using recorded owl calls, rangers will try to get the owls to answer and maybe even approach close enough for a good look! The walk will be less than a mile, but please come prepared because it’ll be chilly! The Alley General Store is on the grounds of the Alley Mill, located six miles west of Eminence, Missouri, on State Route 106.  Please dress warmly and make sure that all children are accompanied by an adult. Mountain Grove went on a 10-0 run from late in the 3rd quarter into the 4th to finally take the lead, then held on to beat the Salem Tigers, 58-51 Tuesday night at the SHS gym. Salem was led in scoring by Zayne Kyser with 16 points followed by Paul McClain with 12. Salem is now 9-10 on the year and 0-2 in the SCA. They will play Friday night at Ava.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will try to stop their seven game losing streak as they will be at Alabama tonight starting at 7:30 with the pre-game show. Missouri goes into the game with a 7-14 record and 1-7 in the SEC. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Jaden Schwartz scored 1:16 into overtime and the St. Louis Blues slipped past Tampa Bay, 2-1, at Scottrade Center Tuesday night. Vladimir Tarasenko picked up the other goal for the Blues, who have won six in a row and 11 of their last 12 to challenge Nashville for Central Division supremacy. Brian Elliott picked up the win thanks to 30 stops. The Blues will be in Buffalo Thursday night.

The Kansas City Royals and third baseman Mike Moustakas avoided arbitration, agreeing on a one-year contract Tuesday. Moustakas, 26, hit just .212 with 15 homers and 54 runs batted in over 140 games last season. In the postseason, he batted .231 with a franchise-record five homers and seven RBI in 15 games for the AL champions.

The 2015 City of Salem Youth Winter Basketball sign-ups for all boys and girls in 1st thru 6th grade and will take place this Thursday, February 5th and Friday, February 6th, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. All signups will be held in the front lobby at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory, located at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem. The cost is $20 per child. Funeral services for David Ernest “Stubby” Hayes of Salem, age 53, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Round Pond Cemetery.

Graveside services for Mr. Ella Burns of Licking, age 98, will be Friday morning at 11:00 at Boone Creek Cemetery. All arrangements are under direction of Fox Funeral Home in Licking.

Funeral services for Athalee Ada Summers of St. James, age 88, will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Animal Shelter or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Funeral services for Ruth Swyers of Steelville, age 98, will be Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery in Cherryville.

Funeral services for Alice Stagner of Newburg, age 97, will be Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Newburg.

Funeral services for William “Gene” Abney of Cuba, age 71, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:30 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Czar Cemetery in Viburnum.

Memorial service and interment for Martha (Seay) Hamblin of Salem, age 94, will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to DCAWS and arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
