The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and consent agenda, during the hearing of persons, Tod Kinerk is requesting permission to hold another Timber Industry Parade in Salem on Labor Day, September 2, 2014. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will update the Board on city happenings and current projects followed by Mayor Gary Brown’s report. In the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions, resolution #1-2014, a resolution required in order for the Mayor to sign a contract with Ray Walden will be presented and resolution #2-2014, a resolution to oppose the laws by the General Assembly limiting the city’s control over their utility assets will also be presented. Lucas will then present a bill for over $3,000 for Board approval. The bill is to repair a RAS pump for the sewer department that totals $4,455. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Office of Administration, in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Revenue, has awarded the management contract for the Salem License Office to the Salem License Office LLC. All license office contracts in Missouri are awarded through a competitive bid process. In fiscal year 2013, nearly 27,000 transactions were conducted at the Salem office, generating approximately $88,962 in agent processing fees.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, January 24th at 9:27 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $4.71. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, January 25th at 5:48 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of South Dilworth in reference to a domestic disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem female on an active arrest warrant from Dent County. She was incarcerated on the warrant pending a court appearance. On Sunday, January 26th at 2:39 in the afternoon, a 25-year old Salem female turned herself in at the Salem Police Department on an active arrest warrant from Dent County. She was taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Monday, January 27th at 8:19 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 43-year old Desoto male on an active arrest warrant from Jefferson County and possession of drug paraphernalia. Also arrested as a result of the stop was a 30-year old Poplar Bluff male on an active arrest warrant from Butler County and possession of methamphetamine. They were incarcerated pending the application for warrants and a court appearance. On Wednesday, January 29th at 8:24 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 21-year old Salem male at the Salem Police Department who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. At 9:00 that same evening, an officer was dispatched to the Mobil convenience store in reference to theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a maroon GMC Yukon SUV pumped $80.10 in fuel and left without paying. And at 9:14 that same night, an officer transported a 53-year old Rolla male from the Phelps County Jail to the Dent County Jail for incarceration in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated on the warrant pending a court appearance. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of fuel report, which is still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection has released more of their reports. On Monday, January 27th a call came in at 11:17 in the morning for a fire on County Road 5100. A total of nine firefighters responded and found a woodpile on fire and hay structures in danger. The fire started from the outside wood furnace from the sparks from the furnace. The Lenox Rural Fire Department, the Montauk Rural Fire Department and the Salem Memorial District Hospital provided Mutual Aid. The shed was a total loss and there was minor damage to a vehicle. The Dent County Fire Protection District provided Mutual Aid to the Lenox Rural Fire Department as a call came in at 3:34 in the afternoon for a car fire with a structure in danger on Highway C. A total of five firefighters responded to the call. All units returned to the station at 5:10. A call came in 11:38 for a vehicle fire with a structure in danger about six miles out Highway 19 North. Upon arrival firefighters found a vehicle fully involved with the side of a building on fire. The fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle, which was a total loss. The structure sustained minor damage. All units returned to the station at 12:17 early Tuesday morning.

Bobby Otwell put back a blocked shot as time expired in double overtime to give the Mountain Grove Panthers the Championship of the 21st Annual McDonald’s Classic in Mountain Grove. Cody Whitaker scored 27 points before being injured in the second overtime that forced him from the game. Salem also received 15 points from Logan Pogue as the Tigers fall to 8-9 on the year. Salem will host the Ava Bears Tuesday night in SCA play at the SHS gym starting with the JV game at 6:00 followed by the varsity.

The Salem Lady Tigers will be in Cabool today to face the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Tigers are 5-12 on the year and JV will start at 6:00 with the varsity to follow.

Jeff Skinner recorded the deciding goal early in the second period and Anton Khudobin stopped 27 pucks, as Carolina bested St. Louis, 3-1, on Friday. David Backes scored and Jaroslav Halak made 28 stops for the Blues. On Saturday, Vladimir Tarasenko's third-period goal tied the game and he notched the game-deciding marker in the shootout, giving the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Jaden Schwartz and David Backers also lit the lamp for the Blues. The Blues will host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Aaron Harrison scored 21 points and James Young added 20 as No. 11 Kentucky defeated Missouri, 84-79, on Saturday. Jabari Brown had a career-high 33 points and Jordan Clarkson added 28 for Missouri (16-5, 4-4), which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Missouri will play at 3rd ranked Florida on Tuesday.

The Kansas City Royals and reliever Aaron Crow have agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the upcoming 2014 season. Crow's signing leaves All-Star closer Greg Holland as Kansas City's lone arbitration-eligible player yet to come to terms. The Royals also agreed to terms on a one-year contract with pitcher Bruce Chen. To clear room on the roster, the Royals designated infielder Emilio Bonifacio for assignment.

The Seattle Seahawks scored 12 seconds into each half and racked up 21 points off turnovers on the way to a 43-8 rout of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Percy Harvin's 87-yard kickoff return touchdown to start the second half came after Seattle also scored 12 seconds into the game on a snap that sailed over Peyton Manning's head and into the end zone.

Memorial services for Colleen Anne Rogers of Salem, age 68, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

A Celebration of her life service for Ingrid E. Neighbors of Rolla, age 84, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home of Missouri.

Funeral services for Clark Dooley of Salem, age 71, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time
