The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of January. During the month, they wrote eight equipment repair orders, 18 summons to appear in court, 29 warning tickets, and 33 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 18 accidents, two assaults, one burglary, one report of child molestation, one report of a discharged and/or shot firearm, two reports of domestic assaults, one report of domestic violence, one report of driving while intoxicated, three reports of endangering the welfare of a child, two reports of harassment and one report of a lost and/or stolen plate. The department also investigated one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, five reports of property damage, one report of rape, 13 reports of stealing, four reports of tampering, one report of trespassing, one report of a violation of a full order of protection and five 96-hour commitments. The department conducted investigations into one report of a controlled substance, three reports of possession of marijuana, and two reports of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Salem Police Department also conducted one death investigation.  The police department received 1,655 calls for service during the month, handled 134 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 59 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 14 hours in court testifying, three hours as court bailiff and spent 18 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in January included 29 calls for escorts, three calls for an intoxicated driver, one call for a prowler, one call for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, two intoxicated pedestrian calls, seven calls for domestic disputes, and five calls for a wrecker. There was one 911 call, seven calls for a peace disturbance, 12 calls for alarms sounding, three calls for fights in progress, nine ambulance assist calls, and two fire calls.  The Salem Police Department drove a total of 9,976 miles and arrested 23 males and 8 females during the month of January.

The 24th Annual Missouri Youth Livestock Grading/Judging Workshop/Contest will be held on Saturday, March 10^th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Trowbridge Livestock Center in Columbia. The workshop is open to ages 8-14 and there will be a $6 fee. The contest is open to ages 10-18 (teams of 4 or individual) and there will also be a $6 fee. A completed registration form and $6 fee must be post-marked by February 10^th. There will be no refunds or on-site registrations accepted, but substitutions may be made at check-in.

The Dent County One Ton Weight Loss Challenge committee will sponsor a Purification and Weight Loss Program on Tuesday, February 7^th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Salem TCRC. Are you over burdened, over-weight, or over-tired?  Are you truly feeling the best your body has to offer?  You may not know how good you could feel until you purify.  Dawn Watters, Nutrition Consultant, will present a program that helps your body purify and rebuild itself from the inside out. Toxins can contribute to a wide range of conditions including: stuffy head, fatigue or difficulty sleeping, digestion problems, food cravings and weight gain, reduced mental clarity and low libido. The program gives you a structured plan for purifying, nourishing, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There will be time for a Q&A session! This is your chance to ask an expert about purification and detoxification for healthy living.  Product samples and refreshments will be served. The cost for this workshop is $5. The Salem TCRC is located in the Salem Freedom Activity Center, 1200 W.
