The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of January. During the month, they wrote eight equipment repair orders, 18 summons to appear in court, 29 warning tickets, and 33 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 18 accidents, two assaults, one burglary, one report of child molestation, one report of a discharged and/or shot firearm, two reports of domestic assaults, one report of domestic violence, one report of driving while intoxicated, three reports of endangering the welfare of a child, two reports of harassment and one report of a lost and/or stolen plate. The department also investigated one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, five reports of property damage, one report of rape, 13 reports of stealing, four reports of tampering, one report of trespassing, one report of a violation of a full order of protection and five 96-hour commitments. The department conducted investigations into one report of a controlled substance, three reports of possession of marijuana, and two reports of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Salem Police Department also conducted one death investigation.  The police department received 1,655 calls for service during the month, handled 134 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 59 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 14 hours in court testifying, three hours as court bailiff and spent 18 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in January included 29 calls for escorts, three calls for an intoxicated driver, one call for a prowler, one call for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, two intoxicated pedestrian calls, seven calls for domestic disputes, and five calls for a wrecker. There was one 911 call, seven calls for a peace disturbance, 12 calls for alarms sounding, three calls for fights in progress, nine ambulance assist calls, and two fire calls.  The Salem Police Department drove a total of 9,976 miles and arrested 23 males and 8 females during the month of January.

The 24th Annual Missouri Youth Livestock Grading/Judging Workshop/Contest will be held on Saturday, March 10th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Trowbridge Livestock Center in Columbia. The workshop is open to ages 8-14 and there will be a $6 fee. The contest is open to ages 10-18 (teams of 4 or individual) and there will also be a $6 fee. A completed registration form and $6 fee must be post-marked by February 10th. There will be no refunds or on-site registrations accepted, but substitutions may be made at check-in.

The Dent County One Ton Weight Loss Challenge committee will sponsor a Purification and Weight Loss Program on Tuesday, February 7th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Salem TCRC. Are you over burdened, over-weight, or over-tired?  Are you truly feeling the best your body has to offer?  You may not know how good you could feel until you purify.  Dawn Watters, Nutrition Consultant, will present a program that helps your body purify and rebuild itself from the inside out. Toxins can contribute to a wide range of conditions including: stuffy head, fatigue or difficulty sleeping, digestion problems, food cravings and weight gain, reduced mental clarity and low libido. The program gives you a structured plan for purifying, nourishing, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There will be time for a Q&A session! This is your chance to ask an expert about purification and detoxification for healthy living.  Product samples and refreshments will be served. The cost for this workshop is $5. The Salem TCRC is located in the Salem Freedom Activity Center, 1200 W. The Salem Lady Tigers held a 22-10 halftime lead over the Thayer Lady Bobcats, but the Lady Cats outscored Salem in the second half, 32-16 and edged the Lady Tigers, 42-38. Kaytlyn Wells scored ten points to lead Salem while Courtney Putman added nine more in the loss. Salem falls to 4-16 with the loss and 1-4 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers are seeded 5th in the Newburg Tournament and will play Cuba on Monday in first round action.

The Salem Tiger Boys Basketball Tigers will be looking for their 5th straight win tonight as they will be in Cabool to play the Bulldogs in SCA action. The JV contest starts at 6:00 and you can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. Salem is 9-11 on the year and 1-1 in the SCA.

Five Lady Tiger Softball players have been selected to the Academic All-State Softball Team for 2011-12. They include Mackenzie Wulff, Leah Whelan, Darian Grogan, Samantha Parker, and Kaytlyn Wells. The Varsity team also received the MSHSAA Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award for 2011-12 with a GPA of 3.52. Congratulations Lady Tigers!

The St. Louis Blues will host the Los Angeles Kings tonight and will be in Nashville Saturday night to face the Predators. Both games get underway at 7:00. KSMO will start with Blues tonight, cut away for the Salem game, and then bring you back to the Blue’s hockey game for the third period.

The fourth ranked Missouri Tigers will host rival Kansas Saturday night at 8:00 in a match-up of top ten teams and a battle for first place in the Big 12. KSMO will broadcast the first period of the Blue’s at 7:00, take you to Missouri basketball, and then air the third period of Blues after the Missouri game.

Funeral services for Woodrow T. Lewis of Salem, age 96, will be Tuesday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Internment will be in the Rector Cemetery in Shannon County.

Funeral services for Elmer "Red" Mahurin of Salem are incomplete at this time. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
