The Dent County Commissioners held their quarterly night and budget meeting Monday night. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on the five major categories for the budget. For the General Revenue, Skiles reported that available cash for December 31, 2010 was $1,169,648.15. Revenues for 2011 were $1,444,628.44 and expenditures were $1,331,019.27 leaving cash available as of December 31, 2011 of $1,268,378.80. The estimated revenues in the General Revenue for 2012 are $1,441,268.67, the estimated expenditures are $1,730,643.87 and the estimated cash available as of December 31, 2012 is $979,003.60. Skiles did note for the General Revenue, that every office holder came in under budget for 2011. In the Road and Bridge Department budget, the cash available as of December 31, 2010 was $453.500.04. Revenues for 2011 totaled $1,153,644.67 and expenditures totaled $1,325,547.03. The cash available as of December 31, 2011 totaled $281,597.68. The estimated revenues for 2012 is $1,541,000.00 and the estimated expenditures is $1,575,155.00, leaving an estimated cash available as of December 31, 2012 of $247,442.68. It was noted in the Road and Bridge Department budget that fuel continues to be a big concern. Not just the price of fuel itself, but items pertaining to petroleum such as tires, lubes and belts. Road and Bridge is also using more brown rock and 3 trucks that are financed locally will pay off this year. The Assessment Fund cash available as of December 31, 2010 was $159,697.89. Revenues for 2011 came in at $172,554.92 and expenditures came to $204,293.72; leaving a cash balance as of December 31, 2011 of $127,959.09. The estimated revenues for 2012 are $169,427.00 while the estimated expenditures is $232,338.00. The cash available balanced estimated for December 31, 2012 is $65,048.09. Skiles noted that the state reimbursements were down from $75,000 just a few years back to about $41,000 a year. The cash available as of December 31, 2010 for the 911 Fund was $98,622.15. Revenues were $49,922.14 and expenditures were $46,977.80. There was a cash available balance of $101,566.49 as of December 31, 2011. The estimated revenues for 2012 for the 911 Fund is $49,100.00 and the expenditures are estimated at $52,374.26, which leaves an estimated cash available as of December 31, 2012 of $98,292.23. Skiles noted that the telephone surcharge continues to bring in between $47,000 to $49,000 each year. In the final major category of the budget, the Law Enforcement Sales Tax Fund, there was cash available of $143,638,61 as of December 31, 2010. There were $987,478.54 in revenues and $980,757.99 in expenditures for 2011. That left a cash balance of $150,569.04 as of December 31, 2011. The estimated revenue for 2012 is $1,127,620.53. The estimated expenditures for 2012 is $1,166,199.48, and the estimated cash balance as of December 31, 2012 is $111,990.09. Skiles noted that all office holders needed a pat on the back, they keep the expenses down, which helps keep Dent County in a lot better shape than other surrounding counties. The Commissioners voted to approve the budget for 2012 by a 3-0 vote. After no comments from those in attendance, the meeting was then adjourned.

An accident occurred on Saturday, December 31st at 11:55 at night on South Warfel Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Gary Seneker of Salem ran off the right side of the roadway, made contact with the curb, continued onto the sidewalk, and made contact with a utility pole. Seneker stated that he fell asleep prior to the crash. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. The Chevrolet sustained moderate damage, and the utility pole sustained extensive damage.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers earned their 4th straight win as they broke open a close game in the second quarter outscoring Houston, 30-19, en route to an 85-62 victory. Salem was led by Jacob Kettner with 27 points and 10 rebounds while Chad Elliot had 24 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Cody Whitaker contributed 13 points for Salem who is now 9-11 on the year and 1-1 in the SCA. Salem will be at Cabool Friday night where they will face the Bulldogs in SCA play and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Funeral services for Betty Marie Fetters of Salem, age 78, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial services for Raymond Cogswell Waggener of Chesterfield, formerly of Rolla, age 81, will be today at 3:00 at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Science Monitor or MS&T Chemical Engineering Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services for Charlotte Louise Parks of Salem, age 71, will be Thursday at 11:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Grace Community Church. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Community Church Young At Heart Ministry. All arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Mae Elizabeth Nelson of Salem, age 90, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Marilyn Leora Barnes, age 75, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wilber Dean King of St. James, age 76, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for James Clevie Palmer of Salem, age 80, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in St. James.

Funeral services for David T. Gruver of Steelville, age 67, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Rivers of Life Fellowship Church in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 3:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Barnicle Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rivers of Life Fellowship Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Memorial services for Harold R. “Fritz” Norfleet, Jr. of Salem, age 64, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
