The Salem Girls Basketball game with Willow Springs Monday night was postponed due to the weather and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will host Houston tonight, weather permitting, starting with the JV game at 6:00 followed by the varsity contest. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and also online at ksmoradio.com. Salem enters the game with a 5-12 record and 0-1 in the SCA.
In the McDonald’s Panther Classic, Jacob Kettner was named to the All-Tournament Team and Jonathan Hambacker was named the tournament MVP. Congratulations Tigers!!
According to Salem Basketball Coach, Nic Zenker, the Salem basketball Tigers took first place in the McDonald’s Panther Classic Tournament in the tie-breakers over Mountain Grove and Willow Springs.
The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they will host the Colorado Avalanche starting at 7:00 on KSMO Radio.
The Basketball Homecoming will be held on Friday, February 4th between the Junior Varsity and Varsity games, as the Salem Tigers will take on the Cabool Bulldogs. The Sophomore attendant is Paige Arnett; the Junior attendant will be Crystal Prince; and the Senior Queen Candidates are Amy Huitt, Sam Riley and Kala Trolinger.

Funeral services for Gene Mitchell Stires Sr. of Salem, age 53, will be held at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for funeral expenses. THIS SERVICE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Funeral services for Helen Loraine (Wooliver) Fruekes, of St. Louis, formerly of Salem, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Stone Hill Church in Salem. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Kutis South County Chapel in St. Louis. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery.
A funeral mass for David Lee Poncet of Hazelwood, age 71, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:45 Saturday morning at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery with full military honors.
Funeral services for Angel V. Cuevas of Salem, age 65, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
