The Salem Police Department released their report involving thefts, assault, and a mental commitment order. On Monday, January 25^th, at 2:26 p.m. an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Third Street in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a purse and contents valued at $950.00. Just minutes later at 2:30, an officer was contacted at the station in reference a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Motorola B9 Razor cell phone valued $150.00 from the owner while at Country Mart. Later that afternoon at 3:10, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 14 year-old male juvenile of Salem was assaulted by another male juvenile of Salem while waiting at a bus stop. That same afternoon at 3:24, an officer transported a 47-year old male of Chesterfield to Southeast Missouri Mental Health Care Center in Farmington in lieu of a mental commitment order. An accident occurred at 10:00 Friday morning in Reynolds County on Highway 21 seven miles north of Ellington. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Dodge Neon driven by 25-year-old Aaron Fortner of Bunker was traveling south on Highway 21. The accident occurred as the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree. An occupant in the Neon, 34-year old Tanya Case of Bunker, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Reynolds County Ambulance to Advanced Healthcare in Ellington MO. Both were wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge was totaled and was removed from the scene by Hill’s Towing of Ellington.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their meeting tonight at 7:00 in the City Hall Council Chambers. After roll call, Vickie Loveday, Co-Chair of Relay For Life, will discuss using the City Park for the annual event, to be held June 11^th and 12^th. She will also request that there be no ball games scheduled for the days of the event due to parking. Jeff Medows of C.M. Archer Engineering will update the Board on Sanitation System #1 Project. After approval of the consent agenda, Mayor Gary Brown will give his comments. Aldermen Jim McDaniels, Jim Jackson, Kenneth Nash, and Brad Nash will then discuss miscellaneous items concerning the City. City Clerk Mary Happel will introduce Bill #3188, #3189, and #3190. Bill 3188 is an ordinance that is required so the Mayor can execute an agreement between the City of Salem and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. Bill 3189 is an ordinance that is required so the Mayor can execute an agreement between the City of Salem and the Salem Area Community Betterment Association. Bill 3190 is an ordinance that is required so the Mayor can execute an agreement between the City of Salem and the Dent County University of Missouri Extension Council. After approval of bills, the board may vote to go into closed session. The City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting is open to the public.

MoDOT wants to help farmers operate safely on highways and to avoid penalties for violations. That's why experts from the department's motor carrier services division will be in West Plains on February 9^th to offer a free agricultural transportation seminar. Every year, many farmers and producers are surprised to find that they are subject to federal and state safety and economic registration transportation laws. Those who attend will learn which, if any, freight carrier laws apply to their operation.  They'll also learn what procedures to take before hauling extra-wide, tall or heavy loads or before operating across state lines. The session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the West Plains Civic Center.
