The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that crew members had been busy cleaning up limbs and trees that blew down during Tuesdays heavy wind and also getting the counties snow equipment ready. Simpson also said that the new road signs are in and crew members would begin putting those up next week. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that there would be no Commissioners meeting next Thursday, because the Commission will be in Jefferson City for their annual training. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the clerks office will be open this Saturday from 8:00 am till 12:00 pm for absentee voting. Curley also said that she received two meal bids for prisoners, but before a decision could be made the Commission would need to discuss it with Sheriff Bob Wofford. Also at the meeting Commissioner Simpson reported that there was a problem with the well at the county shed and he would have someone come look at it. Richard Ferranto stopped by the meeting to let the Commission know that the roof was done on the courthouse, but the two chimneys were about to fall over and needed to be fixed. Ferranto told the Commission he knew someone that did that kind of work and he would have that person get in touch with them. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Friends of the Salem Public Library will be meeting on Monday at 5:30 at the library to discuss their upcoming membership drive and the annual end Book Sale at the end of May.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving leaving without paying, a DWI, shoplifting and possession of marijuana. On January 9th at 7:30 pm. an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on Highway 19 in reference the theft of fuel. The report revealed that person(s) unknown pumped into a red vehicle, $47.34 in fuel and left without paying. On January 10th at 8:35 pm, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on Highway 19 in reference the theft of fuel. The report revealed person(s) unknown pumped into a white Oldsmobile, $47.34 in fuel and left without paying. At 9:55 the same evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 23 year-old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On January 11th at 2:55 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 20 year-old Salem female for stealing items valued at $51.12. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On January 12th at 10:22 pm, an officer was detailed to the 900 block of North Park in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 22 year-old Salem male for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Tonight is the Basketball Homecoming at the Salem High School and the Senior Candidates for Queen are Amy Milligan, Kathleen Lowery and Terra White. The Junior Class attendant will be Bethany Kellerman and the Sophomore Class attendant Kendra Case. The escorts this year will be Zack Moser, Phillip Moser, Luke Heithold, Taylor Sirois and Aaron Loker. The ceremony will occur between the JV and varsity basketball contests.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers game with Mountain Grove Thursday night was postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, February 5th starting at 6:00 with the JV game and the varsity game will follow. The Lady Tigers record is 14-5 and 3-1 in the SCA.

The Salem Tigers Boys Basketball will face another tough SCA opponent tonight in the Thayer Bobcats at the SHS gym. The JV contest will begin at 6:00 and the varsity game will follow. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com. Salem enters the game with a 15-5 record and 2-0 in the SCA.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they will face the Anaheim Ducks at the Scottrade Center starting at 7:30. The Blues will then come right back Saturday night and face the Colorado Avalanche also at 7:30. KSMO will join the game tonight in progress IF the Salem Tigers Basketball game is played. The game Saturday night will be heard in its entirety on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Tigers will host Kansas State on Saturday afternoon and it is unclear how many players will be on the bench for Coach Mike Anderson. He suspended four players for violating team rules for Wednesday’s game with Nebraska and it is not sure if they will be reinstated for the game Saturday. Missouri guard Stefhon Hannah will miss the rest of the year with the broken jaw he suffered in the altercation at the nightclub that led to the other player’s suspension.

The Super Bowl will be Sunday afternoon between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Pre-game shows on TV begin at 10:30 in the morning, but the kickoff will be closer to 5:30.

Funeral services for Ollie Wigger of Viburnum, age 104, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church in Virburnum. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 with an Eastern Star Service at 6:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Sam Crocker Cemetery in Goodland.

Funeral Services for William (Willie) Wiley, of Rolla, age 53, will be held Monday at 12:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ronnie Sellers of Arnold, age 60, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Interment will be in the Seller Cemetery in Dillard.
