The Salem Police Department released their reports for January 23rd through January 27th involving assaults and traffic violations. On January 23rd at 7:18 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led officers to a residence for a possible drug violation. Further investigation at a residence in the 600 block of East Fourth led to the arrest of a 45-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On January 24th at 11:23 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The report revealed that an 18-year old Salem female had assaulted a 24-year old Salem male. She was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court and released. On January 26th at 10:51 in the evening, officers were detailed to the Fifth Street Pub in reference to a fight in progress. The report revealed that a 28-year old Salem male had assaulted a 39-year old Salem female. He was arrested for assault and resisting arrest, and incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On January 27th at 8:31 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 41-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants.

The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire Sunday morning at 11:50 in the 1500 block of South Louise at property owned by Darrell Mailes. Heavy smoke was showing upon arrival and coming from the bedroom/hallway area and the fire was extinguished. The fire was under control within ten minutes. The fire is under investigation and the Fire Marshall was notified. A total of 10 firefighters responded to the call.

Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded four traffic fatalities during the month of December 2006. This is one more than December 2005. The total fatalities for 2006 were 48 as compared to 62 for the same time period for 2005. The summary for accidents, injuries and fatalities for December of 2006 show that 32 accidents occurred in Crawford County with 11 injuries, Dent County reported 27 accidents with 18 injuries, Phelps County reported there were 61 accidents with 31 injuries and one fatality and Pulaski County reported there were 53 accidents with nine injuries and two fatalities reported. In the six county Troop I area for December of 2006, there were a total of 225 accidents, with 84 injuries and four fatalities reported as compared to December of 2005 there were a total of 213 accidents, with 84 injured and three fatalities.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host Mountain Grove tonight in an SCA Contest starting at 6:00 with the JV game. The varsity game will follow and you can hear that game on KSMO starting at about 7:10 with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr.

David Hoskins tallied 25 points in leading the Kansas State Wildcats to an 80-73 win over the Missouri Tigers in Big 12 Conference play from Bramlage Coliseum. The Tigers (13-7, 2-5) were paced by Stefhon Hannah who posted a game-high 27 points on 6-of-8 shooting beyond the arc. He also adding six assists in the team's first loss in three outings. Marshall Brown and Keon Lawrence chipped in with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Both teams shot just over 46 percent from the field in the first half, but thanks to 9-of-10 at the free-throw line KSU put up a 36-33 lead at the break. In the second half the Wildcats converted 51.9 percent out on the floor and 13-of-20 at the charity stripe in securing the seven-point home win. Missouri will play again Saturday afternoon against Nebraska.

Jhasmin Player came off the bench and scored a career-high 21 points as the 13th-ranked Baylor Lady Bears held off the Missouri Tigers, 71-70, at the Ferrell Center. EeTisha Riddle led the way for Missouri (14-7, 2-6) with 26 points and 11 rebounds in the defeat. Alyssa Hollins chipped in with 19 points and Tiffany Brooks added 15 for Missouri, which has dropped five of its last six.

Funeral services for Van Chester McDonald of Salem, age 91, will be held today at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Jean T. Decker of Rolla, formerly of Salem, age 81, will be held today at noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Funeral services for Shelly Tighe of Salem, age 31, will be held today at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the House of Prayer Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Rodgers/Tighe Family.

Funeral services for Bobby Smith Sr. of Salem, age 76, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair. Visitation will tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery in Lonedell. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Hospice.

Funeral services for Jerry Gale Light Jr. of Salem, age 38, will be held on Friday at 1:00 at Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the House of Prayer Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Jerry Gale Light Jr.

Funeral services for Lloyd Roberts of Salem, age 83 will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday night from 5:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral services for Gerald “Jerry” Loughridge of Salem, age 64, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

A memorial service for Gary “Heath” McNelly of Vichy, age 31, will be held Saturday at 5:00 at the Rolla Moose Lodge. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Gary Heath McNelly Memorial Fund at the Citizens Bank of Newburg.

Funeral services for Carol McMullin of Salem, age 63, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.
