Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles is asking citizens to please check their Centurylink phone bill to make sure that Dent County citizens are paying sales taxes and the 9-1-1 surcharge to Dent County. Last year, Dent County lost $8,021.43 in 9-1-1 surcharges compared to 2012 figures. If a citizen is told that can’t be done, hang up and call back and speak to someone else. The commissioners then approved a contract for services from the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce for $750 for the 2014 year. The commission also approved a contract for services from Lowenbaum Partnership, LLC and attorney Ivan Schrader for legal advise on state statues that deal with county commissions. Known as the County Commission Legal Services, the commissioners approved the $1,200 annual fee to be paid in four equal installments of $300 each.
