The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5080, 5450 and 5460, while materials will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Road 6080. Purcell stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5360 and that workers were installing a transmission filter on Dent County Truck #117. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2370, 2403, 2405 and 4310, while materials were going to be added and grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2200 and 4300. Larson said that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 3140. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he will be attending a CCAM meeting Wednesday morning and then the commissioners will be attending their annual training in Jefferson City. Because they will be in training on Thursday, there will be no commission meeting this Thursday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the last day to request the county to mail out a ballot will be Wednesday and that her office will be open in the courthouse this Saturday from 8:00 AM until noon for absentee voting. The last day to absentee vote will be Monday, February 6^th at the clerk’s office. Election day polls will be open from 6:00 AM until 7:00 PM next Tuesday. She also mentioned that the last day to register to vote in the April election is March 7^th. The Commission then received a letter from Drug Court Commissioner Jon A. Kiser requesting the commission approve $80 in expenses for flowers for a funeral to be paid for out of Drug Court. The commission, who had previously declined authorizing payment for the flowers, will forward the letter on to Prosecutor Sid Pearson for further clarification. Sandy Hogan with Senate Bill 40 was in attendance and the board, by a 3-0 vote, recommended and re-appointed Marvin McDonald and Philip Giacomelli to that Board. That board is still two members short. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning, February 6^th at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Hunters who put up temporary deer stands on Mark Twain National Forest should have already removed them. Portable deer hunting tree stands are permitted to be placed in the Mark Twain National Forest two weeks before deer season. Portable deer hunting tree stands are to be removed no later than two weeks after the close of archery deer season, which ended on January 15, 2012. Tree stands now discovered on Mark Twain National are subject to seizure and impoundment. Permanent deer stands are prohibited. Permanent deer stands are any wooden or metal structure that has been attached or fixed to a tree and used for the purpose of hunting deer when in season. Any permanent deer stands found on Mark Twain National Forest will be treated as unauthorized structures, prohibited under law and regulation, and are subject to removal. In addition, use of screw-in steps, screws or nails, and any material that would damage trees is also prohibited. When using temporary portable deer stands in the Mark Twain National Forest, the temporary portable deer stand must have the full name, address, and telephone number of the user. Stands that don’t have identifying information are unauthorized structures and can also be impounded by Mark Twain National Forest law enforcement personnel. The Salem Lady Tigers gave the Willow Springs Lady Bears all they could handle Monday night at the SHS gym, but could not get the key basket when needed and lost to the Lady Bears, 36-29. Salem was led in scoring by Courtney Putman and Kaytlyn Wells with eight points each followed by Kristen Hemken with seven points. The Lady Tigers are 4-15 on the year and 1-3 in the SCA. They will host Thayer Thursday night in their final home game of the year and it will be Senior Night.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be on the road at Houston tonight in SCA play with the JV game at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow at about 7:20. You can hear the varsity contest on KSMO Radio or online at ksmoradio.com Salem enters the game with an 8-11 record and 0-1 in the SCA.

Michael Dixon's trip from goat to hero took all of 25 seconds. After committing an offensive flagrant foul that helped Texas take the lead, Dixon converted a difficult left-handed floater with 31 seconds left to lift fourth-ranked Missouri past the Longhorns, 67-66 on Monday night. Dixon missed just once on the night, scoring 21 points off the bench on 9-of-10 shooting, while Phil Pressey and Ricardo Ratliffe added 13 points apiece for the Tigers (20-2, 7-2 Big 12), who claimed their second straight victory. Pressey dished out five assists in the win. Missouri will host rival Kansas on Saturday night at 7:30 and you’ll be able to catch that game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Betty Marie Fetters of Salem, age 78, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial services for Raymond Cogswell Waggener of Chesterfield, formerly of Rolla, age 81, will be Wednesday at 3:00 at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Science Monitor or MS&T Chemical Engineering Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services for Charlotte Louise Parks of Salem, age 71, will be Thursday at 11:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Grace Community Church. Internment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Community Church Young At Heart Ministry. All arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Marilyn Leora Barnes, age 75, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wilber Dean King of St. James, age 76, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for James Clevie Palmer of Salem, age 80, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday night from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 with full military honors.
