The Salem Police Department released their reports for January 23rd through the 30th involving thefts and burglaries. On January 23rd at 12:30 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took a music ipod valued at $200 from a student’s belongings at the Salem Jr. High School. The report is under investigation. On January 24th at 10:58 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered through the garage door and took from the area a Stihl chain saw and a partial roll of barbed wire. The items are valued at $220 and the report is under investigation. On January 26th at 7:15 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 200 block of North Water in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a residence through a window and took a Stihl chain saw valued at $600. The report is under investigation. On January 28th at 11:35 in the evening, an officer while on routine patrol observed a possible burglary in progress at Whitakers Building Supply on Babb Lane. Upon investigation of the possible burglary, officers were able to apprehend a suspect in the immediate area. Further investigation connected the suspect in custody with three other burglaries at MFA Farmers Co-Op, the Fourth Street Mall and Stephens Steak House that had occurred the same day but were unnoticed and unreported at the time. The suspect was incarcerated on nine charges pending application for warrants. On January 30th at 7:20 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of East Center in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took items from a maroon 1998 Ford F-150 that was parked at a residence. Reported missing were a checkbook, an Ozark Trail queen size blow up bed and a key valued at $55. The report is still under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts or burglaries is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will be meeting in closed session on Thursday, February 1st at 5:00 pm. This meeting will be closed to the public for the purpose of discussing personnel. 

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will be holding a blood drive in Salem on Friday from 11:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon at Salem Wood Products at 200 Stave Mill Road. To be eligible to donate, you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be healthy.

C.J. Smith scored a three-pointer with 29 seconds left that proved to be the difference as the Salem Tigers won a wild one in Willow Springs Tuesday night, 61-60. Willow Springs had three chances to win it but turned the ball over twice and missed a long shot at the end of the game after Salem missed a free throw. Salem was led in scoring by Taylor Sirois with 16 points and ten rebounds. Solomon McNeal netted 15 points for Salem while Cody Wofford scored a dozen. Salem is 9-9 on the year and 2-0 in the SCA with a trip to Thayer scheduled for Friday night.

The Missouri Tigers take to the road and will face Kansas State tonight in a Big 12 tilt. Missouri is 13-6 on the year and 2-4 in the Big 12. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio starting at 7:30 with the pre-game show followed by the contest at 8:00.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Pavol Demitra both scored a pair of goals, as the Minnesota Wild held off the St. Louis Blues, 5-2, at Scottrade Center. Eric Brewer and Jay McClement scored the goals for the Blues, who lost their second straight after having a season-best four-game winning streak halted on Saturday. Radek Dvorak, Petr Cajanek and Keith Tkachuk each notched assists, while Manny Legace blocked 25-of-29 shots in defeat. The Blues will be back in action Friday night at Detroit starting at 6:30.

Funeral services for Lloyd Roberts of Salem, age 83 will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
