Intercounty Electric has announced that effective April 1^st that electric rates will rise approximately three percent. This is the first rate adjustment since January of 2009. To maintain the quality, reliability and integrity of the services they provide, a rate increase was necessary to protect the financial stability of the organization. The rate increase will mean that your residential rate will go from $0.807 to $0.831 per KWH. For an average household user of 1,300 KWH, your expected monthly increase should be $3.12. Dusk to dawn lighting flat rates will increase to 25 cents to 35 cents depending upon your lamp type. These changes will not be reflected until you receive your May bill. Maintaining dependable service at the most affordable price is the cornerstone of the cooperative, and yet Intercounty remains proactive in planning for your future energy needs and work hard to anticipate any potential issues that could escalate the costs of energy. Wherever possible, the coop works to minimize the impact these issues have on your energy bill. There are times when unforeseen circumstances can cause change or change the stability of the coop where a raise in rates must be made. An accident occurred at 6:10 Friday morning in Reynolds County on Highway 72 about six miles west of Centerville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1995 Toyota driven by 52-year old Robert Hurst of Bunker was traveling eastbound on highway 72 and lost control on the ice covered roadway, crossed the centerline and struck a 1991 Chevrolet driven by 41-year old Dennis Kenne of Ellington. Kenne suffered minor injuries and will seek his own medical treatment. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Toyota sustained extensive damage, while the Chevrolet was totaled. Hills Towing of Ellington towed both vehicles from the scene.

An accident occurred at 7:40 Saturday morning in Dent County on Highway 72 at Lake Springs. According to the highway patrol report, a 1987 Ford driven by 18-year old Victoria R. Reed of Salem, was traveling on Highway 72 when she lost control, ran off the left side of the roadway, down an embankment, overturned and came to rest off the highway. Reed suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Salem Memorial District Hospital. According to the report, Reed was not wearing a seat restraint. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitakers Towing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released several arrest reports. On Friday, January 20^th at 10:38 in the morning, 20-year old Brett White of Newburg was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of speeding and failure to wear a seat belt. He was then taken to the Dent County Jail. On Sunday, January 22^nd at 7:45 in the evening, 32-year old Tonya Falzone of Edgar Springs was arrested and charged with felony 2^nd degree burglary and misdemeanor 2^nd degree property damage. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and put on a 24-hour hold. Later that night at 11:42, 22-year old Andrew Eyeburg of Lake Spring was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. On Wednesday, January 25^th at 12:45 in the early morning, 32-year old Michael Gamblin of Salem was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and no seat belt. He was taken to the Phelps County Jail and later released.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers smothering defense against the Mountain Grove Panthers allowed the Tigers to win the McDonald’s 19^th Annual Panther Classic Friday night in Mountain Grove by the score of 57-46. Salem allowed Mountain Grove only five 3-pointers in the game where they had been averaging 13 in the first two games of the tournament. Salem got five 3-pointers from Cody Whitaker to lead the Tigers with 15 points. Chad Elliott netted 13 points for Salem and Dustin Sercl scored 11 points as Salem improves to 8-11 on the year and the Tigers have won three games in a row for the first time this year. They will be on the road at Houston on Tuesday night in SCA play.

The Salem Lady Tigers will host the Willow Springs Bears in SCA play tonight starting with the JV game at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow at about 7:20. Salem enters the game with a 4-14 record and 1-2 in the SCA. Tonight is Breast Cancer Awareness night at the game where there will be special T-shirts available to raise funds to fight breast cancer. It will also be “Pink Out” night where fans are asked to wear pink.

Kim English led all scorers with 22 points as No. 2 Missouri remained undefeated at home with a 63-50 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday. Marcus Denmon added 19 points and six boards and Michael Dixon chipped in nine points as the Tigers (19-2, 6-2 Big 12) improved to 12-0 at home this year. Missouri has now won five of its last six after dropping its last contest at Oklahoma State. Missouri will play at Texas tonight at 7:30 and KSMO will join this game in progress following the Lady Tiger game.

The St. Louis Cardinals have avoided arbitration with Jason Motte, signing the reliever to a one-year contract.

Funeral services for Bertha Ellen Woods of Steelville, age 79, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Red Cross.

Funeral services for Betty Marie Fetters of Salem, age 78, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mae Elizabeth Nelson of Salem, age 90, will be Thursday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Marilyn Leora Barnes, age 75, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for James Clevie Palmer of Salem, age 80, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday night from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in St. James.

Memorial services for Harold R. “Fritz” Norfleet, Jr. of Salem, age 64, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
