The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular Monday morning meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, the entire commission is asking everyone not to do any type of outdoor burning with these extremely windy and dry conditions. Dent County Fire Protection District Chief Brad Nash reports there have been 12 structure fires this month and that does not include flue fires. He also said that since the 23rd of January, they have had a total of 17 calls. This does not include all the calls responded to by the Lenox, Montauk and Timber Fire Districts. Conditions are simply too dry and the winds are accelerating the spread of these fires or re-igniting them once they have been brought under control. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that a full service was being done on Grader #26. He reported that work crews were checking roads for downed limbs and trees that have blown over the roads and need to be removed. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that his crews were out taking care of some reported downed trees and limbs, and that some workers will be clearing out culverts. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said bids were taken for propane for the courthouse Friday and the low bid was Titan at $4.39 per gallon. About 500 or so gallons were purchased by the county. Curley said the last time the county bid out propane the cost per gallon was $2.13. At the last meeting, Randall Maley with the Department of Health and Senior Services came in to check the air quality at the Courthouse. He reported the humidity level was good as it was below 10%, but the third floor is becoming deteriorated. That being said, the Courthouse is in better shape than other buildings around the same age as it is. Maley said he would be sending the commissioners an official written report. The next regular morning meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released reports. On Sunday, January 19th at 3:37 in the afternoon a call was received for a structure fire on East Hunt Street in Salem. Upon arrival the garage was fully involved, the attic of the house was on fire and the fire was moving towards other structures. The Rolla City Fire Department, the Montauk Rural Fire Department, Lenox Rural Fire Department and Jadwin Rural Fire Department provided Mutual Aid. Also assisting was the Salem Memorial District Hospital, Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Salem Police Department as well as the City of Salem Water Department. A total of ten firefighters responded to the call. The cause of the fire is undetermined, which started in the garage and was a total loss. On Monday, January 20th a call came in at 7:27 in the morning for a rekindle on East Hunt. Upon arrival flames were showing on the east end of the structure. A total of seven firefighters responded and the Lenox Rural Fire Department provided Mutual Aid. All units returned to the station at 10:05 that morning. On Thursday, January 23rd at 5:45 pm a call came in for a barn fire on County Road 3260. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke and fire showing. A total of eight firefighters responded to the call and the Lenox Rural Fire Department provided Mutual Aid. The cause of the fire was undetermined and the structure was a total loss. On Friday, January 24th a call came in at 12:44 in the early morning to provide Mutual Aid for the Timber Rural Fire Department, for a structure fire at the Gladden Baptist Church located on Highway 19 South. Nine firefighters responded and found fire coming from the attic. At 6:11 that morning, a call came in for a gas leak in a kitchen on North Askins in Salem. Nothing was found. Then at 10:30 that same morning a call came in to provide Mutual Aid to the Timber Rural Fire Department for a rekindle of the fire at the Gladden Baptist Church. Six firefighters assisted with several hot spots with the structure on the ground. The structure was a total loss. At 1:35 that afternoon, a call came in for a rekindle of the barn fire on county road 3260. Five firefighters found three small hot spots on fire and extinguished them. All units returned to the station at 2:25 that afternoon

Cody Whitaker scored 18 points to lead four Tigers in double figures as Salem beat the Cabool Bulldogs by the score of 61-57 at Mountain Grove in the McDonald's Classic. Logan Pogue and Adam Ziske each scored 11 points while Josh Bounds scored ten points and led the team with 12 rebounds. The Tigers improve to 7-8 on the year and are 1-0 in the tournament. They will take on Willow Springs Thursday at 6:00 at Mountain Grove in the second round of the tournament. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Earnest Ross and Jabari Brown scored 24 points each as the Missouri Tigers earned a vistory over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Tuesday, 75-71. The Tigers (16-4, 4-3 SEC) hit 16 of 16 in the second half to pull away late. Missouri will host 11th ranked Kentucky on Saturday.

Alexander Steen gace the St. Louis Blues the early lead and Jaroslav Halak earned his fourth shoutout of the season as the Blues topped the New Jersey Devils, 3-0, on Tuesday. Brenden Morrow and Maxim Lapierre also scored for the Blues, who are tied for first place in the Central Division. St. Louis will be in Carolina to play the Hurricanes on Friday night.

Funeral services for Verna Hartman of St. James, age 98, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Solid Rock Christian Church.

A memorial service for Phillip John Bautista Montoya of Rolla, age 53, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the family of Phillip Montoya.

Funeral services for Donald Eugene Massey of Rocky Mount and formerly of Steelville, age 76, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Assembly of God Church in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday night from 7:00 until 8:30 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Northcare Hospice of Kansas City.

Memorial services for Richard “Rick” Domeyer of Salem, age 88, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Salem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the Antique Aircraft Association in Blakesburg, IA. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
