The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 5600, and that materials would be added and patch grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 6090. Purcell indicated that some patch grading would also be done on the roads in the Bunker area. He also stated that workers would be clearing gravel from the Cooley Bridge in the Bunker area. Purcell did say that the county would solicit bids to purchase a mid- 1990’s to a mid-2000’s tandem axle dump truck. Sealed bids would be opened on February 21st at 10:00. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2340 and 3050 and rock was going to be screened at the shed. Larson reported that workers would be in the Boss area checking for clogged pipes and that one man would be hauling brown rock to the shed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be in Jefferson City today for the MRPC Day at the capital. He also said that the commissioners would not be meeting on Thursday, February 7th due to the CCAM training in Jefferson City. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that March 6th would be the last day to register to vote for the Municipal Election in April. She went on to say that she would be holding a voter registration drive at the Salem High School Gym Lobby on Friday, February 15th starting at 6:00 before the high school basketball game. Chairman Curt Faigle from the 100-Acre Wood Rally was in and went over the proposed race areas with the commissioners. He says he still needs to get the insurance waiver to the county, but does have the permits from the Forest Service for the race. The Rally will be held on Friday, February 22nd and start at the Potosi Lions Club that day with a parc expose at the Steelville City Park. Then on Saturday, the Rally will leave Salem at 10:00 AM from downtown after the vehicles will be on display downtown starting at about 9:00. This year, a service area will be out at the Commons instead of in Viburnum. Faigle said that currently there is only one spectator location in Dent County, but he has been looking at another possible spot, but he has not been out there to check it out. Faigle stated that so far, 39 teams have entered and he hopes to have at least 50 teams for this year’s rally. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at the Courthouse beginning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Wednesday, January 16th at 11:15, an officer made contact with a 38-year old Salem male at the station who had an active arrest warrant from Probation and Parole. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Early that afternoon at 12:25, an officer was dispatched to McDonalds in reference to a counterfeit bill. The investigation revealed that someone unknown passed a twenty-dollar bill and the bill was located before deposits. The counterfeit bill will be relinquished to the U. S. Secret Service as the investigation continues. On Friday, January 18th at 12:46 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to U.S. Bank in reference to a counterfeit bill. The investigation of revealed the bank had received a counterfeit five dollar-bill in a deposit. The bill will be turned over to the U. S. Secret Service. Later that evening at 8:06, a vehicle was stopped during an investigation of a suspicious vehicle wherein the occupants were shouting profanities. That investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, January 19th at 7:08 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued at $64. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. A little later that evening at 7:28, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Bowling Center parking lot in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 19-year old Salem female had been assaulted by an 18-year old male by use of a vehicle. At 8:19 that same evening, an officer was dispatched to Casey’s General Store located on Highway 19 in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a tan Dodge short bed truck pumped $72.18 in fuel and left without paying. Later that night at 9:19, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 51-year old Salem male for driving while drugged and driving while intoxicated. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. The Salem Lady Tigers used a 28-10 halftime lead to cruise to a victory over the Cabool Lady Bulldogs on Monday, 63-38. Savannah Hanning scored 14 points and Kristin Hemken added 13 points for the Lady Tigers, who move to 8-10 on the year and 2-2 in the SCA. Emily Moser scored 12 points and Gabby Sanderson had 11 points in the victory. Salem will be in Willow Springs on Thursday to face the Lady Bears.
The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will be in Ava tonight to play the Bears in an SCA match-up. JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. Salem is 7-11 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.
The St. Louis Cardinals signed free-agent infielder Ronny Cedeno to a one-year contract on Monday. The eight-year veteran made appearances at shortstop, second base and third base for the New York Mets last year. The team also named Bengie Molina, the older brother of catcher Yadier Molina, assistant hitting coach.

Funeral services for Dennis Cunningham of Salem, age 27, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery.
Funeral services for Charles O. Kroeck of Bunker, age 78, will be Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
Funeral services for Audrey Lois Jorgenson of Rolla, age 80, are incomplete at this time. All arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
