Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings has reported that a couple of scams have hit Salem and Dent County in the last couple of weeks. Stallings has stated that he has received several calls in reference to the Red Rock Casino and Publisher's Clearing House informing citizens that they have won anything from money to a new car.  In most of the cases the caller has requested that the winner or winners buy a gift card with a certain amount of money. The caller states this is necessary so the process can be started to verify that you are the person who is supposed to receive the awards at which time you will then be asked to provide the gift card numbers on the phone to them. These calls are scams!! Do not buy the gift cards that they are requesting and if you do buy gift cards, never give gift card numbers out to anyone. Stallings said that these incidents are happening in Dent County more frequently.  If you have any question about these calls or scams, or they leave you a number to call them back with numbers, call the Dent County Sheriff’s Department at 729-3241.
