The Salem Police Department released their reports last week. On Friday, January 23rd at 3:12 p.m. an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to shoplifting. The report led to the arrest of a 27-year old male and a 28-year old female, both of Greenriver, Wyoming for stealing $360.37 worth of merchandise. The subjects were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. At 7:46 p.m. that evening, two male juveniles were taken into custody for fighting. The incident took place on the Salem High School parking lot. Both juveniles were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Officer. On Saturday, January 24th at 10:38 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a death. Dent County Coroner Gina White pronounced 31-year old Henry Keel Jr. of Salem dead at 10:50 am. No autopsy was performed, and the cause of death is awaiting the toxicology report. On Sunday, January 25th, a number of reports of vehicles being damaged were received. The report revealed that several vehicles at different locations through out the city had been hit with eggs. At 4:42 p.m. that afternoon an officer was detailed to the 1800 block of South Oak in reference to a fight. The report led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem man for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons and was incarcerated. On Monday, January 26th at 1:15 p.m. an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to shoplifting. The report led to the arrest of a 27-year old woman and a 28-year old woman, both from Viburnum for stealing approximately $38.00 worth of merchandise. Both were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. Anyone with any information on the vehicles being hit with eggs, which is still under investigation, is ask to contact the Salem Police at 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, January 18th the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a mutual aid call with the Montauk Fire Department for a structure fire on County Road 6580. The alarm time was 7:10 pm and was under control at 8:20 pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The structure is a total loss. A total of 8 firefighters respond to the call. On Wednesday, January 21st, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist call on County Road 4243. A total of 5 firefighters respond to the call. At 12:33 that afternoon, The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire call on Highway 19 North. The situation was under control at 1:02 pm. The cause of the fire was a controlled burn that got out with 4 acres burned. A total of 6 firefighters respond to the call. Also on Wednesday, January 21st, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a mutual aid brush fire with the Lenox Fire Department. The call was on Highway FF. The alarm time was 4:46 pm, and was under control at 5:26 pm. The cause of the fire was unknown with 40 acres burned. A total of 7 firefighters respond to the call. Then the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a gas grill on fire on Magnolia Drive. The alarm time was 6:22, under control at 6:37 pm. No damage was done to the structure. A total of 8 firefighters respond to the call. On Thursday, January 22nd, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire call on County Road 3220. The alarm time was 12:49 pm and under control at 1:08 pm. The cause of the fire was a controlled burn that got out, affecting 2 acres that burned. A total of 6 firefighters respond to the call. Later that afternoon the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire call on County Road 2850. The alarm time was 4:25pm and under control at 4:42 pm. The cause of the fire was a controlled burn that got out affecting one acre that burned. A total of 5 firefighters respond to the call. On Saturday, January 24th at 10:37 in the morning, a total of 6 firefighters responded to an ambulance assist call on Truman Street.

The Salem Upper Elementary School Honors Choir has been selected to sing the National Anthem at the St. Louis Cardinals baseball game on July 31st against the Houston Astros. Congratulations to Julie Cartwright and the Upper Elementary Honors Choir. In the near future, they will have tickets available for the game for those who are interested in attending.

The Salem Tiger Boys Basketball game with Steelville scheduled for Tuesday was postponed due to the weather. No makeup date has been scheduled. The Tiger will face Rolla tomorrow night in a makeup game from December at the SHS gym starting at 6:00 with the JV game with the varsity game to follow. Salem is 8-9 on the year.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be at Waynesville tomorrow night to face the Lady Tigers starting at 6:00 with the JV game. Salem enters that game with a 7-9 record.

The Missouri Tigers will be at Kansas State tonight starting at 8:00 with the pre-game show starting at 7:30. Missouri enters the game with a 17-3 record and 4-1 in the Big 12. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Rams have named Dick Curl as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach, Paul Ferraro to the defensive staff and Frank Leonard to the offensive staff. The Rams have also named Charlie Baggett as the wide receivers coach.

Graveside services for Barbara Mae Light of Rolla, age 65, will be held this afternoon at 1:00 at the Rhea Cemetery in rural Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Rhea Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Velma Hanks of Steelville, age 83, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be held tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Charles Hampton of Salem, age 76, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Margaret Land of Salem, age 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Vesta Lee (Stluka) Crouch of Salem, age 71, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Bunker Tabernacle Church in Bunker. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the StLuka Family Cemetery

Funeral services for Ruth J. Lacy of St. James, age 87, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 Saturday morning. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Tri-County Humane Society.

Funeral services for Johnny Earl Wilson of Rolla, age 61, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Brookshire Cemetery in Flat, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the Johnny E. Wilson Family.

Funeral services for Donald Crocker will be Sunday at noon at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Oates.
