An accident occurred at 7:35 Friday morning in Dent County on Highway 32 East of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 GMC Yukon driven by 16-year old Dylan Wisdom of Salem was traveling westbound on Highway 32. The GMC ran off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, became airborne and overturned. Wisdom suffered minor injuries and was taken the Salem Hospital by the Salem ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The GMC Yukon was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident happened Friday morning at 7:55 in Phelps County on Route M between Edgar Springs and Flat. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Kia Sedona driven by 49-year old Paula James of Edgar Springs was traveling eastbound, when Jones failed to observe a 2000 Saturn SL1 parked in the roadway, facing east and struck the Saturn from behind. A passenger in the Kia, 28-year old Zachary James of Edgar Springs suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Kia sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Lucas Garage. The Saturn also sustained moderate damage and was to be moved later.

An accident occurred at 8:00 Friday evening in Crawford County on Cedar Lane about a mile east of Highway M. According to the highway patrol report, 19-year old Rusty Higgs of Steelville was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan east when the vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Higgs suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by Mile’s Towing.

An accident happened Sunday morning at 10:20 in Texas County on Route N about three miles west of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, 16-year old Matthew Hunter of Edgar Springs was driving a 1995 Kawasaki 254 4-wheeler eastbound crossing Route N when he pulled into the path of a 2005 Ford F-150 driven southbound by 58-year old Steven Buckner of Licking. Hunter suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by ambulance. The 4-Wheeler sustained extensive damage and was removed by the owner, while the 2005 Ford F-150 had moderate damages and was later driven from the scene. Hunter was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident while Buckner did have on a seat restraint.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Sunday, January 12^th at 1:38 in the early morning a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old male and a 48-year old female, both of Vienna, for possession of methamphetamine and endangering the welfare of a child. Both suspects were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Two juveniles’ ages 2 and 6 years were placed in the custody of the Division of Family Services. At 1:00 that afternoon an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone took a yellow 1994 Honda CBR motorcycle valued $1,000 from the parking lot located at Pershing and Center. That night at 9:56 an officer was detailed to a residence in the 900 block of South Dilworth in reference to drug activity.  The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Monday, January 13^th at 11:13 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 1400 block of South Louise in reference to damage to a vehicle.  Investigation revealed someone threw eggs hitting a blue 2012 Ford truck, scratching the paint causing $100 in damage.  On Wednesday, January 15^th at 3:00 in the afternoon an officer was detailed to Dilworth and Franklin in reference to a vehicle that ran off the road.  Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 6:43 an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft.  The investigation revealed someone unknown took a stainless steel Smith and Wesson 500 handgun valued $1,319 from a silver 1997 Chevrolet Lumina.  Please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242 if you have any information regarding an ongoing investigation.

Hunters checked 50,507 Deer during Missouri’s archery deer season, bringing the state’s overall deer harvest to 250,787. That number is down from the 10-year average of 293,056. The archery deer harvest was the second largest in Missouri’s history, reflecting the continued growth in popularity of bow hunting. Top archery deer harvest counties were Jefferson, with 1,205 deer checked, St. Louis with 1,230, and Franklin with 1,018. The Conservation Department plans to hold public meetings around the state this summer to gather input from hunters, wildlife watchers and others about the future of deer management in Missouri.
