The Dent County Sheriff’s Department deputies have arrested three individuals involved in numerous burglaries over the last couple of weeks in Dent County after a lengthy investigation that uncovered a large number of the stolen items. Incarcerated in the Dent County Jail were 30-year old James D. Walker of Salem and 24-year old Robert Cole Duncan of Salem each charged with two Class C Felony counts of burglary in the second degree and a Class C Felony for the theft of stealing property or services of more than $500 but less than $25,000. Duncan is being held on a cash only bond of $21,000 while Walker is being held on a cash only bond of $28,000. Also arrested was 25-year old Dustin Miller of Salem who was charged with the two Class C Felony counts of burglary in the second degree, a Class C Felony for the theft of stealing property or services of more than $500 but less than $25,000, and a Class C Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held on a cash only bond of $28,000. Deputies found tools, rifles, pistols, ammunition and numerous other items and have been working the last several days to locate victims and to get the property properly returned. The information presented is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday, January 15th at 12:45 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Salem Community Center @ The Armory T.C.R.C. in reference to damage to city property. The investigation of the report revealed a 19-year old Salem male had damaged a table valued at $75. That same afternoon at 5:32, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed a person or persons unknown entered a residence by force and took a necklace valued at $299. That same evening at 9:15, an officer responded to the Fourth Street Mall in reference to a disturbance involving an intoxicated male. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 51-year old male of Salem for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Friday, January 16th at 12:04 pm, Salem Police officers assisted by the Missouri Department of Conservation and Missouri State Highway Patrol served a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of West Independence. During the search, officers located a methamphetamine lab as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. A 36-year old male and a 41-year old female both of Salem were taken into custody for the manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident occurred in Iron County Friday morning at 6:38 on Route U about five miles east of Belleview that took the life of a Belleview man. According to the highway patrol report, a westbound 1999 Mazda 626, driven by 77-year old Everett J. Nichols, struck a trailer being towed by a westbound 2003 Case International farm tractor, driven by 63-year old Larry C. Gilmore of Ironton. The Case International sustained minor damage, while the Mazda was totaled and removed from the scene by Adams Towing. According to the report, Nichols was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident happened in Dent County Sunday morning at 4:20 on Highway 32 about three miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1986 Chevrolet C/K 10 driven westbound by 28-year old Jeffrey Yerk of Salem, traveled off the right side of the roadway and Yerk was ejected from the Chevy. He suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital in Salem. Yerk was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevy was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

After dropping a 75-54 decision to Rolla Friday night at the St. James Tournament where Caleb Copeland scored 32 for the Bulldogs, the Salem Tigers captured the 3rd place plaque with a 63-55 win over the Blair Oak Falcons. Zayne Kyser scored 16 points to lead the Tigers followed by Kobe Mead with 14 and Logan Pogue with 13 more. Salem is 8-7 on the year and they will be at Mountain Grove to face Bakersfield in the first round of the Family Pharmacy Tournament tonight starting at 7:30. Bobby Portis recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Arkansas Razorbacks edged the Missouri Tigers, 61-60, in a SEC battle at Mizzou Arena. Montaque Gill-Caesar paced the Tigers (7-12, 1-5) in the scoring column with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Johnathan Williams III registered a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Wes Clark racked up eight points, six assists and five boards. Missouri will host Kentucky Thursday night.

John Tavares recorded four goals and Jakub Voracek followed with three scores and three assists, as Team Toews walked away with a 17-12 decision over Team Foligno in the 2015 All-Star Game from Nationwide Arena, the highest-scoring mid-season event in league history.

Funeral services for John D. Hoodenpyle of Salem, age 54, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Floyd Lawrence “Jack” Byington of Salem, age 82, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the State Veteran’s Cemetery in Waynesville. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Funeral services for John T, Britton of Cuba, age 86, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery in Caledonia, Missouri with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Gideon's Memorial Bibles or Steelville First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Funeral services for Hazel Dean Welch will be held today at 3:30 at the Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until service time at the church. Interment will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Josephine “Jo” Garner of Rolla, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Clinton Donald Peeler of Salem will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
