The Dent County Health Center and the Council for a Healthy Dent County Boards of Directors are pleased to announce the Council will assume management oversight of the Salem Fitness Center effective February 1, 2012. Since the Fitness Center started it has been administered under the Dent County Health Center (DCHC).  The Center’s revenues come from a combination of: member dues, class fees, and community donations. Recently the Council for a Healthy Dent County joined the Salem TCRC partnership as managing partner. Several meetings were held to discuss the prospect resulting in a proposal from the Council to the Health Center for the Council to assume administrative and programmatic responsibilities for the Salem Fitness Center. The Council for a Healthy Dent County is a non-profit 501c3 organization with the capacity to continue the role previously fulfilled by the Dent County Health Center. The Salem Fitness Center was formed in 2003 and originally operated as the Cardiovascular Wellness Program. Initial funding for the center was a three-year Missouri Foundation for Health grant. The grant provided resources for equipment and limited funding for staff. Both the Fitness Center and Salem TCRC programs will continue to operate out of the Salem Freedom Activity Center at 1200 W. Rolla Road in Salem, Missouri, and many benefits to the joint-operation are expected. The Council will work with current staff and volunteers to continue to improve and enhance the Center for the good of the community. The transition plan includes both short-term and long-term items for implementation. Organizations and individuals having an interest in supporting the Salem Fitness Center and/or to request additional programs and services are encouraged to contact the Center at (573) 739-1127, by email at info@salemfitnesscenter.org or in person at the Salem Freedom Activity Center, 1200 W. Rolla Road in Salem in the former National Guard Armory.
