The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that due to roads repeatedly thawing and freezing limited grading is being done. District 1 crews are spot grading in the Montauk and Gladden areas and hauling gravel to various roads throughout the district. District 2 crews are also spot grading and hauling gravel to various roads and brush is being cut on Dent County Roads 429 and 430. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported that he would be attending a Community Development Workshop Friday in Jefferson City. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that a dedication ceremony for the JoAnn Barnes Memorial Highway will be held Thursday, March 14th; a time and location will be set at a later date. Linda Harris stopped by the meeting to discuss the possibility of getting Dent County Road 651, which leads to Cedar Grove, chip and sealed. Commissioner Simpson explained that part of the road is in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways jurisdiction and the Commission has to contact the National Park Service before the county can even touch that section of road. Simpson said would be contacting the Park Service with this request within the next 30 days. Mary Faye Cook also stopped by the meeting to request that the county do more to maintain Dent County Road 667 that leads from Route YY to Montauk State Park. Commissioner Simpson explained that this is a similar situation as with the Cedar Grove Road. Part of DCR 667 is in the ONSR jurisdiction and the county has minimal access to what can be done to that section of road. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History located at the intersection of North Hickory and East Rolla Road, will present “Snakes in Winter” on Tuesday, January 30th. Steve Bost, park naturalist at Montauk State Park, will present a program about, Missouri snakes. This activity is appropriate for the whole family and light refreshments will be provided. The cost is $3.00 per person or $7.00 for the whole family. Reservations are requested. To make your reservations or for more information call the BoneBrake Center of Nature and History at 729-3400.

The Ozark Rivers Audubon White River Trace/Important Bird Area (WRT/IBA) bird county has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 27th. They will be meeting at 7:30 AM at the White River Trace Headquarters. Birders of all skill levels are welcome. The area will be divided into sections, and each section will be led by an experienced bird watcher. Be sure and wear clothing appropriate for the weather and conditions. Bring water, snacks, coffee, ect., for personal use. The trip leader will bring bottled water and doughnuts to get things started. The Salem Lady Tigers dropped a 59-43 decision to the Waynesville Lady Tigers Thursday night at Waynesville. The Salem Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Kirsten Stephens who netted 18 points. The Lady Tigers are now 14-4 and have lost their last two games. The Lady Tigers will host Mountain View Monday night as they get back into SCA play at the Salem High School Gym.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will travel to St. James tonight to face the Tigers starting at 6:00 with the JV contest with the varsity match to follow. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio starting at 7:10 with Tiger Talk and Coach Travis Wrightsman with the game to follow. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers are 8-8 on the season.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they host the Detroit Red Wings starting at 7:00. KSMO will have the third period of the game for you immediately following the Salem Tiger basketball game with St. James. Then the Blues will host the Nashville Predators on Saturday night at 7:00 and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio.

The Blues have recalled forwards David Backes and Peter Senja from Peoria after they were sent down over the All-Star break.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers, coming off their first Big 12 win of the year Wednesday at Colorado, will face Texas Tech Saturday afternoon at 3:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 2:30 with the pre-game show. Missouri is 12-6 on the year overall, and they are 1-4 in the Big 12.

Funeral services for Helen Edna Turnbough of Steelville, age 81, will be held today at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for Grace S. Benowitz of Salem, age 87, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Methodist Building Fund or Alzheimer Research.

Funeral services for Leona Katherine Tournbaugh of Salem, age 83, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 7:00 to 9:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services for Barbara Cutting of Salem, age 62, will be Saturday at 3:30 at the Green Forest Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Chestaline Gilmer of St. Louis, age 78, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Redford Baptist Church. Visitation will be after 4:00 today at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington. Interment will be in the Redford Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the SSM Hospice in St. Louis.

Funeral services for LeRoy Hedgcoth of Black, age 68, will be held Sunday morning at 11:00 at the Locust Grove United Baptist Church in Oates. Visitation will be after 4:00 on Saturday at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Lesterville. Interment will be in the Barton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Locust Grove Baptist Church.
