The Dent County Commission met Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse. In the hearing of persons, James Fulton was in attendance to find out what Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley had determined about the petition for the county to abandon county road 2230. Second District Commissioner Gary Larson explained that Curley was working on the issue and that the state statutes would be followed. Fulton asked to be kept up to date as to what was to happen.  In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that truck 117 was being repaired, a crew was checking and repairing road signs and a man was servicing the backhoe. He went on to say that brown rock would be hauled if time and the weather permitted. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that truck 68 was being worked on, two men were servicing the backhoe and loader and two men were picking up old tires. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles said several people had commented to him about the proposed change to the speed limit on Highway 72. He wanted to remind the public that the Dent County Commission is not involved in the decision and that those wanting to comment should contact MoDOT at 573-751-2551. Skiles went on to remind everyone of the budget hearing coming up Monday at 7:00 pm in the Judicial Building. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that March 6 is the last day to register for the April election. Curley went on to say that she had received the writ of election from Governor Nixon’s office setting June 4 for the election to fill the 8th District Congressional seat, currently held by Jo Ann Emerson. Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley joined the Commission to discuss the process for the county road 2230 issue.  He said there would have to be a first reading of the petition and relative statute, followed by public postings in three locations within 10 days. The postings will include the petition, statutes, and second reading details. The second reading would be 30 days after the first reading and at that time the petition and statute would be read and public comment would be heard. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley opened the bids for the two county trucks. The Commissioners voted 3-0 to accept the bid of $5,500 from Whitaker Auto Salvage for the 1997 Ford dump truck and the bid of $1,667.50 from Schwartz Salvage for the 1996 Dodge 4X4 pickup. The next meeting will be Monday at the courthouse.
