The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Monday, January 16^th at 1:30 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Upper Elementary School in reference to a theft of fundraiser funds. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem female for failing to turn in $181 to the school from a fundraiser event in the fall of 2011. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 10:51, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 200 block of North Warfel in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 20-year old Salem male had assaulted a 20-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, January 17^th at 1:06 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of South Warfel in reference to child abandonment. The investigation revealed that a 24-year old male and female, both of Salem, left three juvenile children under the age of 5 at home unattended for a substantial length of time. Further investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects who were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. At that same time an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Hunt in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown broke a window of a residence valued at $20. Later that morning at 2:19, an officer was dispatched to the city park in reference to suspicious activity at the playground. The investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem female on a warrant from Crawford County. She posted bond on the warrant and was released with a court date. Later on the morning at 4:31, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of South Warfel in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 24-year old male and a 24-year old female worked in concert breaking the glass of 6 vehicles, totaling $3,014.46 in damages. They were taken into custody and incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Wednesday, January 18^th at 1:08 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of West Dent in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 29-year old Salem male had assaulted a 30-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, January 19^th at 11:54 in the morning, an officer took a report of a lost or stolen license plate. The plates were believed to be taken from a white 1996 Jeep Cherokee parked in the 200 block of South Washington. The United States Attorney’s Office announced that Jason Lamier was indicted on multiple charges including possession, receipt and transportation of child pornography. Lamier, a 35-year old from St. James, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday, January 19, 2012, and appeared in federal court. If convicted, possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. Each count of receipt and transportation carry a penalty range of five to 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigated this case.

Missouri farmers who are just starting out have a new tool thanks to an agreement between State Treasurer Clint Zweifel (ZWY-ful) and the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency. Beginning immediately, first time Missouri farmers qualifying for a low-interest Missouri Linked Deposit Program loan could also receive a 95 percent loan guarantee and a waiver of the 1.5 percent origination fee from the FSA subject to its criteria and availability of funds. In 2011, nearly $24 million in Missouri Linked Deposit Program loans were given to 115 beginning farmers, saving them an estimated $370,000 in interest. A beginning farmer qualifying for a Missouri Linked Deposit Program loan may use proceeds to purchase agriculture land, farm buildings, new and used farm equipment and livestock. The proceeds may also be used as working capital. Eligibility requirements may be found at www.treasurer.mo.gov/LinkedDeposit. Qualifying borrowers generally save 30 percent on the cost of the loan. Since January 2009, nearly $906 million in Missouri Linked Deposit Program loans have been approved saving Missourians an estimated $16.3 million in annual interest and impacting more than 15,000 jobs and farmers. More than $341 million in loans have been approved just for farmers, saving them an estimated $5.5 million in annual interest.

Chad Elliot scored 29 points and had five steals in the game as the Salem Tigers thrashed the Willow Springs Bears, 70-43. Jacob Kettner added 15 points and 11 rebounds while Dustin Sercl netted a dozen more points for the Tigers who are now 7-11 on the year. Salem will face the Mountain Grove Panthers Friday night at 6:00 in the final game of the round robin McDonalds' Panther Classic.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers pulled out a win on the road in Cabool Tuesday afternoon in a makeup game due to adverse weather by the score of 43-25. Kaitlyn Wells led the Lady Tigers with 12 points as the Lady Tigers improve to 3-14 on the year and 1-2 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers will host Steelville Thursday night.

Chris Kunitz notched the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to send Pittsburgh past St. Louis, 3-2, at Scottrade Center. Patrik Berglund netted both goals for the Blues, who lost for just the third time in their last 10 games. The Blues are now off until next Friday night due to the All-Star break.

The 2^nd ranked Missouri Tigers will be on the road tonight, as they’ll face Oklahoma State. Missouri is 18-1 on the year and you’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO starting with the pre-game show at 6:00.

Attention Parents of All Boys and Girls currently enrolled in the First through Sixth Grade. The City of Salem Winter Youth League Basketball Program is just around the corner. Sign-ups will be held in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center (formerly the National Guard Armory) located at 1201 West Rolla Road today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Sign-ups will also be held on Thursday, January 26^th and Friday, January 27^th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and the FINAL SIGN-UP will be held on Saturday, January 28^th from 9:00 am until 12:00 (NOON). These will be the ONLY sign-ups and the cost is $20.00 per child.
