The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5490, 5500 and 5530; and workers would be working on the apron approach to Highway 32 and Dent County Road 2440. Purcell said that work was also being done on county truck #119. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that workers will be salting and sanding roads in the Boss area where needed including Dent County Road 4430. He said that workers were still working on the bridge on Dent County Road 4050 in the Short Bend area where there could be some temporary delays. Larson said that repairs were being made to chain on the salt spreader for county truck #114, and that the new pump for the brush cutter is in and workers are repairing it. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be attending Capital Day with other MRPC Commissioners today where they will discuss legislative priorities, and he will be attending a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday in St. James where they will hear from SEMA, DNR and the 911 Directors Association. At the last meeting, the Commission signed the road relinquishment agreement for sections of right-of-way at Dent County Roads 240A, 241, 608 and 609 connections to Highway 32. This was in accordance with the county agreement between MoDOT and the County of Dent on November 11, 2008 for the road improvements to Highway 32. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Saturday, January 15^th at 12:18 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Ranch Motel in reference to a fight in progress.  The investigation of the report led to the arrest of two 29-year old males and one 27-year old male all of Warrensburg for disorderly conduct and peace disturbance. They were incarcerated and issued a summons to appear in court. At 2:27 that afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for an investigation involving a disturbance at Wal-Mart. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 22-year old male of Reynolds on a Dent County warrant. He was transported to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office where he was released to their custody. Then at 8:02 that evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old male of Salem for driving while suspended. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday, January 16^th at 11:00 in the morning, a 44-year old Salem male was transported to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains in lieu of a 96-hour mental commitment order. On Monday, January 17^th at 1:38 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted in reference to sexual abuse of a child. The investigation of the report revealed that an adult male had possibly sexually abused a female child. The report is still under investigation. On Tuesday, January 18^th at 3:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a burglary at a residence in the 900 block of East Hawkins. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown forcibly entered a residence and took a Taurus 38 caliber snub nose pistol valued at $400. At 4:40 that same afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to trespassing. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem male for trespassing on Wal-Mart property. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released.

Congratulations go out to the 2010-2011 Band Members who earned High School All-Conference Honors. They include Amber Blaylock, Hanna Bostic and Jeri White on the Clarinet; Kasey Wainwright playing the Flute; Alicia Wallis playing the Alto Sax; Emily Green on the Tenor Sax; Kimberlee Bradford playing the Baritone Sax; Alan Benowitz & Weston Richardson on the Trumpet; Bradley Yates playing the Euphonium; and Shawn Bolerjack on the Tuba. A special recognition goes to Amber Blaylock, Jeri White, and Emily Green for earning First Pick All-Conference; and to Jeri White for earning All-Conference Bass Clarinet and B-flat Clarinet. The band is under the direction of Hillary Alexander.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform bridge maintenance on Route 32 in Dent County, on the bridge over Huzzah Creek, beginning today. Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area. Bridge maintenance is performed to improve the section where the road and bridge meet and prevent deterioration of the bridge deck or structure.
