The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning for their regular meeting in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to share CART results. January receipt was $51,803.65, which was up $894.52 when compared to January 2013.  In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that he had a crew checking for missing road signs, picking up tires and trash, and inspecting crossover pipes for possible replacement. Purcell went on to say that workers were also servicing truck #57. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that his crews were doing the same as District 1 and servicing truck #70. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles pointed out that all three Commissioners attended the last National Park Service public comment meeting Wednesday evening in Kirkwood. Skiles reminded citizens that they have until February 7 to comment and that it is vital that they let their feelings be known.  Comments may be done online at the National Park Service website or by mail. Mailed comments should be sent to the National Park Service Post Office Box 490 in Van Buren, MO 63965. Skiles went on to say that he was thoroughly disgusted with the way NPS has presented the plan to indicate that the “No Action Option” is not a viable option. Skiles said that it is obvious that NPS has and is ignoring local input. He added that it was also obvious at the Kirkwood meeting that the majority of sentiment was in favor of local citizens opinions.  Skiles also reminded citizens of the budget hearing to be held Tuesday evening January 28th at 7:00 pm in the Judicial Building first floor courtroom. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said her office was working on year-end reports and quarterly reports. Commissioner Gary Larson left to take care of a family medical need.  Attorney Brooks Kenagey was in, representing Thomas Kratz of St. Louis, asking for a Quit Claim Deed for abandon railroad right of way on the property Mr. Kratz purchased on the Crawford and Dent County lines. Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley was present and he said he had no issue with the request.  Presiding Commissioner Skiles checked the Commission minutes and verified that the Commission had already approved the deed at the November 18, 2013 meeting and had just been waiting on documentation from Mr. Kratz’s attorney. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.
