The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the hospital library and through a conference call due to the adverse weather. In the Administrator’s report, the hospital showed an excess of expenses over revenues from operations of $48,552 for December, but with tax revenues of $53,794, the excess of revenues over expenses for the month was $5,241. In the director of nursing report, there were 1,642 outpatients registered with 63 inpatient admissions and 764 Emergency Room visits. The statistics showed that there were 223 ambulance runs with 178 patients transported and 45 dry runs, 30 surgery cases, 178 Home Health visits, 7,887 lab tests, 1,076 radiological procedures, 265 CT scans, 25 MRI scans, 10 nuclear med scans, 415 rehab treatments, 243 dialysis treatments and 310 clinical visits. In the construction report, the Receptionist Area construction began January 17th while the Long-Term Care work has come to a halt due to the cold weather, while the Surgery Center Area painting and woodwork is now finished. Casey Lucas updated the board on the Electronic Medical Records time line and he said that the MEDHOST Emergency Department Software is working well, while the Physician Practice Management software vendor reviews will continue through January 31st. They will then narrow it down to the best two software programs for an additional presentation before making a decision by the end of February. Lucas said that the Pharmacy Phacts is being installed and will go online by January 31st, while they hope to go online with the Medical Identification program with the University of Missouri Pharmacy by the end of February. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said that a meeting would be held January 27th on Hospice at the hospital while the bylaws for the Foundation Program continue to be reviewed and developed. Pryor said that the board will review the contract proposal from Krehbiel Engineering for the lagoon and he should be ready to present it at the next board meeting. He said that Joe Hayes was the only one to file for District #4 for the April election for the hospital board and will serve another six-year term, and he said that a meeting concerning the future of the TCRC would be held the week of January 24th. The board approved and adopted the Conflict of Interest Policy before reviewing purchases. They approved the budgeted purchase from MMS for Cardiopulmonary an Oxygen Supply Manifold for $504 and a Portable Ventilator for $4,733, an I.V. Bag Warmer for  the ambulance from Emergency Med Products for $1,034, a 10 x 12 cassette and image plate and a 14 x 17 cassette and image plate for Radiology from FUJIFILM for $576 and $945 respectively, a pallet jack for maintenance for $927 from Grainger, and a new Linux server for Information Systems from CPSI for $51,819. In non-budgeted purchases, the board approved a fax machine for the business office for $150 from Automated Business Systems, two scanners for the SMDH Family Medicine for $260 from Ambir Travelscan Pro, and two desktop personal computers from ABS for $1,146. The meeting was then adjourned.

Six members of the Missouri Congress, Jo Ann Emerson, William Lacy Clay, Blaine Luetkemeyer, Russ Carnahan, W. Todd Akin, Billy Long and Vicky Hartzler sent of a letter of support to President Obama requesting quick approval of Federal Disaster Designation, following up on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s January request for 9 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis regarding the severe storms, hail and tornados in Central and Southern Missouri, including Phelps and Dent County, from December 30th and December 31st.  A decision from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expected soon.

Jennifer Herndon scored 28 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead the Salem Lady Tigers to a 48-34 win over licking Friday night at the SHS gym. The win put Salem back at the .500 mark with an 8-8 record. The Lady Tigers will be off until Thursday night when they travel to Steelville to face the Lady Cardinals.

Jack Mueller and Drew Tucker each scored 15 points to lead the St. James Tigers past the Salem Tigers in the 3rd place game of the St. James Tournament Saturday night, 60-46. Salem was led by Dex West Saturday with 10 points. The Tigers lost to Hillsboro Friday night, 54-39 which put them in the 3rd place game on Saturday. Salem is now 3-10 on the year and will be in Mountain Grove tonight to face Cabool in the first round of the McDonald’s Classic starting at 6:00. Michael Dixon scored 15 points as all five starters reached double figures in 13th-ranked Missouri's 87-54 victory over Iowa State at Mizzou Arena.Marcus Denmon supplied 13 points, five rebounds and four steals while Kim English contributed 12 points, five boards and four assists for the Tigers (17-3, 3-2 Big 12). Ricardo Ratliffe added 12 points, six caroms, six blocks and three assists while Justin Safford chipped in with 11 points in the win.

Andrew Murray notched the winner early in the third period, while Rick Nash and Fedor Tyutin posted late-game tallies as Columbus rallied past St. Louis, 5-2, at Scottrade Center. Eric Brewer and Patrik Berglund provided the only offense for the Blues, who have dropped eight of their last 10. Jaroslav Halak surrendered four goals in defeat. The Blues will be  in Colorado tonight starting at 8:30 on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed veteran infielder Nick Punto to a one-year deal Friday. A 33-year-old switch-hitter, Punto spent the past seven seasons with the Minnesota Twins. Versatile and sure-handed on defense, Punto has played extensively at every infield position except first base, with the odd stint in the outfield.

The Kansas City Royals and first baseman Billy Butler have agreed to terms on a four-year contract, avoiding arbitration. No terms of the deal were released but MLB.com is indicating the 24-year-old will be paid $30 million over the life of the deal. The contract also includes a club option for 2015. The 14th overall pick in the 2004 draft, Butler batted a career-high .318 last season while hitting 15 home runs and driving in 78 runs. He also established career-bests with 189 hits, 69 walks and a .388 on-base percentage.

Funeral services for John Henry Willbanks of Beulah, age 61, will be held at 1:00 today at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel in Licking.

Funeral services for Walter K. Deisher of Salem, age 88, will be held Tuesday a 11:00 am at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7pm at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church of Asher Cemetery.

Funeral services for John J. Sinclair of St. James, age 81 will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla MO. Interment will in the Old Abany Cemetery in Rural St. James. John Sinclair will lie in state at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James from 6-8pm Tuesday.

Funeral services for Kimberly Lynn Ludeke of Salem, age 42, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Friday. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kimberly Ludeke family.
