The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the hospital library and through a conference call due to the adverse weather. In the Administrator’s report, the hospital showed an excess of expenses over revenues from operations of $48,552 for December, but with tax revenues of $53,794, the excess of revenues over expenses for the month was $5,241. In the director of nursing report, there were 1,642 outpatients registered with 63 inpatient admissions and 764 Emergency Room visits. The statistics showed that there were 223 ambulance runs with 178 patients transported and 45 dry runs, 30 surgery cases, 178 Home Health visits, 7,887 lab tests, 1,076 radiological procedures, 265 CT scans, 25 MRI scans, 10 nuclear med scans, 415 rehab treatments, 243 dialysis treatments and 310 clinical visits. In the construction report, the Receptionist Area construction began January 17^th while the Long-Term Care work has come to a halt due to the cold weather, while the Surgery Center Area painting and woodwork is now finished. Casey Lucas updated the board on the Electronic Medical Records time line and he said that the MEDHOST Emergency Department Software is working well, while the Physician Practice Management software vendor reviews will continue through January 31^st. They will then narrow it down to the best two software programs for an additional presentation before making a decision by the end of February. Lucas said that the Pharmacy Phacts is being installed and will go online by January 31^st, while they hope to go online with the Medical Identification program with the University of Missouri Pharmacy by the end of February. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said that a meeting would be held January 27^th on Hospice at the hospital while the bylaws for the Foundation Program continue to be reviewed and developed. Pryor said that the board will review the contract proposal from Krehbiel Engineering for the lagoon and he should be ready to present it at the next board meeting. He said that Joe Hayes was the only one to file for District #4 for the April election for the hospital board and will serve another six-year term, and he said that a meeting concerning the future of the TCRC would be held the week of January 24^th. The board approved and adopted the Conflict of Interest Policy before reviewing purchases. They approved the budgeted purchase from MMS for Cardiopulmonary an Oxygen Supply Manifold for $504 and a Portable Ventilator for $4,733, an I.V. Bag Warmer for  the ambulance from Emergency Med Products for $1,034, a 10 x 12 cassette and image plate and a 14 x 17 cassette and image plate for Radiology from FUJIFILM for $576 and $945 respectively, a pallet jack for maintenance for $927 from Grainger, and a new Linux server for Information Systems from CPSI for $51,819. In non-budgeted purchases, the board approved a fax machine for the business office for $150 from Automated Business Systems, two scanners for the SMDH Family Medicine for $260 from Ambir Travelscan Pro, and two desktop personal computers from ABS for $1,146. The meeting was then adjourned.

Six members of the Missouri Congress, Jo Ann Emerson, William Lacy Clay, Blaine Luetkemeyer, Russ Carnahan, W. Todd Akin, Billy Long and Vicky Hartzler sent of a letter of support to President Obama requesting quick approval of Federal Disaster Designation, following up on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s January request for 9 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis regarding the severe storms, hail and tornados in Central and Southern Missouri, including Phelps and Dent County, from December 30^th and December 31^st.  A decision from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expected soon.
