The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold their regular meeting this evening at 6:00 at the hospital library. At the meeting, the board will hear a summary of the operations and statistics from the month of December from hospital comptroller Stephanie Wofford. Carol Lacy will then give the Director of Nurses report before Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor goes over the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar, legislative update and the inpatient and emergency room patient satisfaction survey results. After the Chief of Staff’s report, Pryor will go over the election filing that ended on Tuesday, the Physician’s Office Building report and he will update the board on strategic planning for the hospital in December. In New Business, the board will discuss a conflict of interest policy and go over purchases before going into closed session to discuss personnel, real estate and litigation. The meeting tonight is open to the public.

Filings for all board seats ended on Tuesday, January 22^nd. Incumbent Judy Thompson filed for the lone seat on the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board. The Dent County Fire Protection District has one 6-year term available with incumbent Stanley McElfresh being opposed by Matthew Pappert. The Fire District also has one 5-year term with Grant Hamlet being opposed by Craig Smith, and one 4-year term where incumbent Elizabeth Greundel is unopposed. The Oak Hill R-1 School District has two open seats on the board with Joel Devall, Randy Parker and John Strebe having filed. At Green Forest R-2, incumbents Amber Toman, Rick Shults and Scott Shults have filed along with Troy Ard for the three 3-year terms that are available. At Dent-Phelps R-3, incumbents Darrell Skiles and Toby Toman filed for the board, which has three 3-year terms and one 2-year term available. Also filing for the R-3 board are Todd Hodge, Mike Elliott, Red Cummings and Joe Case. At Northwood R-4, incumbents John Harrison and Tracie Inman filed for the board that had three 3-year terms available. Also filing were Laura Parsons, Dennis (Dee) Jessen, Helania Wulff and Johnny Martin. Filing for the Salem R-80 school board were incumbents Greg Stevens and Jimmy Williams along with Jack Blackwell and Joseph Howard. The board has three 3-year terms available. For the City of Salem,incumbent Mike Whitley filed for the west-ward aldermanic position and is being opposed by Kenneth Nash, incumbent Jim McDaniels was the lone filer for the east-ward aldermanic position, and incumbent Gary Brown filed for the mayoral position in Salem and is being opposed by Rodney Peterson. The Municipal Election will be held on April 8^th.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors are now taking bids for electric work for a new kitchen, bathroom and meeting room. For the bid specifications, those interested need to contact Fire Chief Brad Nash at the Dent County Fire District administrative office at #2 South Main Street in Salem between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Bids will need to be submitted no later than 6:00 on Monday, February 4^th at the administrative offices. The bids will be reviewed at the regular meeting that evening. The board of Directors reserves the right to reject and all bids, to waive variations and to negotiate changes or additions. The board also reserves the right to select any or no bid, regardless of price, based on the needs and operations of the district, and to extend the time to submit or open bids.

AARP tax counselors will be available to prepare federal and state tax returns for low to moderate income senior citizens, including the Property Tax Credit for Senior Citizens, at the Salem TCRC on Fridays beginning February 1^st from 9:00-12:00 and 1:00 to 4:00. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host the Waynesville Lady Tigers tonight in a non-conference tilt starting at 6:00 with the JV contest. The varsity game will start about 7:15 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com. Salem enters the game with a 13-4 record on the year.

The Salem Knights of Columbus Council 7501 will hold their annual free throw shooting contest for boys and girls from ages 10 to 14 this Saturday night at the Salem Freedom Activity Center starting at 6:30. Sign ups will be held the night of the competition and a parent’s signature is required on the registration. Winners will be eligible to compete in the district competition in February. Martin Zeno scored a career-high 33 points as all five starters scored in double figures for Texas Tech in the team's 92-84 win over Missouri in Big 12 Conference action at United Spirit Arena. The Tigers (11-8, 1-3) were paced by Keon Lawrence with 24 points off the bench, while Stefhon Hannah and DeMarre Carroll chipped 17 and 14 points, respectively, in the team's third straight setback. The Red Raiders lost the battle of the boards, 38-27, but made up for it with 21 forced turnovers and an incredible 36-12 advantage at the free-throw line on the night. Missouri will face Colorado Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Daniel Sedin scored the only goal in the shootout, as the Vancouver Canucks rallied to defeat the St. Louis Blues, 3-2, at General Motors Place. After three scoreless rounds, Sedin moved in on Manny Legace, then sold the backhand before pulling the puck back to the forehand and tucking it into the net. Roberto Luongo made a glove save on Keith Tkachuk to preserve the win. D.J. King and Brad Boyes tallied for the Blues, who have been outscored 30-15 during their season-high six-game slide. Manny Legace made 28 saves. The Blues have lost four straight in the shoot-out to fall to 1-4 in the extra segment. The Blues will be in San Jose tonight to face the Sharks starting at 9:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Blues have recalled forward Yan Stastny from Peoria (AHL) to replace the injured Ryan Johnson.

The Kansas City Chiefs have named Curtis Modkins their running backs coach, promoted Bob Bicknell to offensive line coach and named Joe D'Alessandris assistant offensive line coach.

Funeral services for Rogers H. (Pete) Falkenrath of Newburg, age 91, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Manor.

Funeral services for Elva Smith of St. James, age 100, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba.

Graveside services for Kathleen Marie Brake of Salem, age 59, will be held at 11:00 Saturday morning at the New Harmony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Harmony Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Katie Alice Walker of Salem, age 95, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Osteoporosis Foundation.
