The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday, January 10th at 10:08 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 55-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued $33.70. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. That afternoon at 2:00, an officer responded to a call to Quality Machine Works in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone unknown took 1,975 pounds of steel from outside the building valued at $1,200. That same afternoon at 4:30, an officer was dispatched to the 900 block of West Fourth in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that someone unknown broke the glass valued at $100 on a door of a residence. That night at 7:52, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 30-year old Salem male had assaulted a 28-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Friday, January 11th at 7:57 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Third in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a utility trailer valued at $800. Later that afternoon at 12:31, an officer responded to the Personal Touch Cleaners in reference to counterfeit money. The investigation of the report revealed someone unknown passed a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill. The counterfeit bill was collected and will be forwarded to the U. S. Secret Service. At 1:55 that same afternoon, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store located on Highway 32 in reference a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that the driver of a blue and silver 90’s model Dodge Ram pumped $70.01 in fuel and left without paying. That same afternoon at 2:55, an officer was dispatched to McDonalds Restaurant in reference to counterfeit money. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown passed a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill. The counterfeit bill was collected and will be forwarded to the U. S. Secret Service. Anyone with any information regarding the theft, property damage, fuel with out paying, or counterfeit money reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 573-729-4242.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announced that Dent County Conservation Agent Jason Midyett has been named the Department’s 2012 Conservation Agent of the Year. Midyett began his career with MDC in 2000 as a Fisheries resource assistant at Bennett Springs. He attended the Department's conservation agent training program in 2005. After successfully completing 26 weeks of intensive training, he was assigned to Barry County. He transferred to Phelps County in 2009 and moved to Dent County in 2011. Agent Midyett grew up in Dent County before attending college at the University of Missouri - Columbia and earning his bachelor's degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology in 1998. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) would like to make the public aware of roadwork that will take place the rest of this week. In Crawford County, roadside maintenance will take place through Friday on Route 8 between Route 19 and Route Y and on Route 19 between Route 8 and Route 49. In Dent County, roadside maintenance will take place through Thursday on Route P at County Road 5050. Roadway maintenance will take place now through Monday, February 4th on Route NN between Route F and the end of state maintenance. The Salem Tigers led 15-2 after one quarter of play and cruised to a 50-38 win over Mountain Grove Tuesday night at the 20th McDonald's Classic Tournament in Mountain Grove. Chad Elliott led all scorers with 18 points as Salem is now 1-1 in the Tournament and 7-10 on the year. The Tigers will face the Cabool Bulldogs Thursday evening at 7:30 in the final round of the tournament. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.
Earnest Ross and Jabari Brown each drained clutch 3-pointers in the closing moments of the second half to help No. 22 Missouri overcome a 13-point deficit and down South Carolina, 71-65, at Mizzou Arena. Ross finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Brown had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (14-4, 3-2 SEC), who won for the fourth time in six games. Alex Oriakhi posted 18 points and 11 boards in the victory. Missouri will host Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Viktor Stalberg's third-period goal proved to be the difference, as the Blackhawks held off the St. Louis Blues, 3-2, on Tuesday in Chicago's home opener at United Center. Andy McDonald and T.J. Oshie tallied a goal apiece, while Brian Elliot allowed all three goals on 26 shots in the setback, St. Louis' first of the season after opening the year with back-to-back wins. The Blues will host Nashville on Thursday.
The St. Louis Cardinals have locked up their closer for the next two seasons, with the team announcing that it has come to terms with reliever Jason Motte on a multi-year contract.
