The Salem Tigers gave Rolla everything they could handle Friday night for three quarters leading the Bulldogs at that time, 47-43, but Rolla outscored Salem 21-6 in the fourth quarter and beat Salem, 64-53 in the St. James Tournament. Jay Zalis had 24 points to lead the Bulldogs while Jacob Kettner led Salem with 19 points. In the 3rd place game Saturday night in St. James, four Salem Tigers were in double figures, but the defense couldn’t stop Sullivan as the Eagles beat Salem, 73-58. Chad Elliott and Jacob Kettner each had 15 points for Salem and Cody Whitaker added 14 more. The Salem Lady Tigers rallied from a 19-point deficit Friday night but could not overtake the Licking Lady Wildcats, losing by the score of 55-52. Courtney Putman had 13 points in the game while Kaitlyn Wells added 12 more. Salem is 2-14 on the year. The Lady Tigers have a makeup game at Cabool Tuesday at 5:00 and it will be a varsity game only.
Ricardo Ratliffe scored 27 points, Phil Pressey had 18 and 5th ranked Missouri held on to hand 3rd ranked Baylor its second straight loss, 89-88, on Saturday. Marcus Denmon added 15 points, including the free throw with 4.5 seconds left that counted as the difference as Missouri (18-1, 5-1 Big 12) won its fourth straight game since losing to Kansas State two weeks ago. Missouri will play at Oklahoma State on Wednesday night.
David Backes had two goals and two assists as St. Louis continued Buffalo's road woes with a 4-2 win at Scottrade Center. B.J. Crombeen and David Perron each scored for the Blues, who have won four straight and eight of their last nine games. Jaroslav Halak made 19 stops for the win. The Blues will be in Detroit tonight to face the Red Wings at 6:30 and KSMO will join this game in progress following the Salem game.
The St. Louis Blues have rewarded All-Star goaltender Brian Elliott with a two-year contract extension. Elliott has posted a 15-5-1 record and 1.68 goals-against average in 22 games this season. He has already tied a career high with five shutouts. Elliott has allowed the fewest goals (36) and suffered the fewest losses among goaltenders with at least 20 starts.
