The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that District workers were spreading salt and sand and removing snow as scheduled and where necessary. He said that he, Commissioner Gary Larson and Rusty Chamberlain attended a chip and seal repair workshop in Sullivan put on by N.B. West Contracting. In District 2, Commissioner Larson said that workers are also spreading salt and sand on slick spots and on chip and seal roads. He said that workers have been working on the bridge on Dent County Road 4050 at Short Bend. Larson reports that occasionally workers will have to temporarily close the bridge for short durations, such as 30 minutes or so, and would appreciate the public’s patience with this project. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles attended a County Commissioners of Missouri Association meeting held last Wednesday. He said that they finalized the commissioner training for February 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th in Jefferson City. He said that they also addressed legislative concerns and the number one concern will be to change the budget law where counties can amend their annual budget if sales taxes decrease. Currently, the law only allows the counties to change their budget if the sales tax revenues increase. Skiles also said that the association would be watching bills introduced by the legislature to see how they will affect counties. He said that their next meeting would be held on February 2^nd before the annual training. Skiles also wanted to remind the public that the annual budget hearing will be held Monday, January 24^th at 7:00 at the Judicial Building in the Associate Circuit Courtroom and the meting is open to everyone. Copies of the budget are available in the clerk’s office. The commission was also reviewing and approving the December monthly reports from the Dent County Collector. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the hospital library and through a conference call due to the adverse weather. At the meeting, the board heard the Chief of Staff’s report from Dr. Pharr and he indicated the staff had a chance to meet with the new State Senator Dr. Dan Brown and State Representative Jason Smith. He also mentioned the six doctors recommended for Active Staff privileges and they are Brent Caudill, MD; John Demorlis, MD; Ralph Ford, MD; Ryan Pharr, DO; Yvonne Prince, MD and Julius Punzalan, MD; and the 41 other doctors recommended for Courtesy Staff privileges provided they have in all their paperwork to the state. He also said that the doctors approved and recommended Tracy Beckham, CRNA for Courtesy Staff privileges. The board approved the recommendations for Active Staff privileges, Courtesy Staff privileges as well as Courtesy Staff privileges to Tracy Beckham. Physicians not reapplying for privileges were from the Emergency Room, physicians Frank Frederick DO and Ryan Hall, DO; dermatologist Joseph Matters, MD; Aaron Trone, DO from Family Medicine; and Boyd Terry, MD from Telemedicine. The board also reviewed the Emergency Room and Inpatient survey results for the 4^th quarter of 2010. There were 166 responses from the emergency room which was way up from the other three quarters. As in the past, the results were outstanding with most categories receiving 96% or greater. Two areas dealing with physicians directly both scored at 91%. Of the 20 in-patient survey responses received, the patient booklet continues to be an area that needs improvement, but it was up to 91% from 86% average for the fiscal year to date. All the other categories graded out at 95% or greater for the quarter. The financial breakdown as well as other statistics about the meeting will be available on Monday.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their workshop, called Mayor Gary Brown and postponed from yesterday, on Thursday, January 27^th at City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 1:30 to discuss maintenance and fuel logs. The workshop of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public. 

A Hunter Education Class will be held Saturday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 tomorrow and from 6:00 to 9:30 PM Monday at the Commons Youth Building. No pre-registration is needed!
