The Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out to 201 North Main Street to Casey’s General Store at 11:30 Tuesday night, January 19^th. Upon arrival, ten firefighters found fire coming from the window on the northwest corner of the building. After making entry, firefighters found that the majority of the fire was contained to the office area. The fire was extinguished and Fire Marshall Roger Hayes was called to the scene at 11:59 pm to investigate the cause. The scene was under control at 5:00 am. At 2:35 that afternoon, eight firefighters were dispatched to Highway 68 to a family dwelling for the mobile home fire. The owner was remodeling and screwed into an electric wire. The officer in charge advised the owner to leave the power disconnected to the trailer until an electrician could fix the issue. The scene was under control at 3:13 that afternoon. Then on Wednesday, January 20^th at 1:29 in the early morning, four firefighters were dispatched back to Highway 68 North to a family dwelling for a building fire. This was the same residence that had a minor electrical fire on Tuesday. The owner had been advised not to turn the electric back on until he had an electrician fix the problem. Upon arrival firefighters found that the electric had been restored to the house without someone fixing the problem and the electric again caught the structure on fire. The condition of the house is going to be a total loss. The scene was under control at 4:00 am. At 8:46 that same morning, seven firefighters responded to a call on County Road 3190 to a family dwelling to a building fire. The fire was extinguished and appeared to have started in the attic with minor damage. The scene was under control at 10:12 am.

Charles Pace at the TCRC is also making a disk with all of the photos from the ball on it. For those that attended the ball, and would like to have a copy of the disk, you may pick this up at the TCRC and again there is no charge. The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting on tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the minutes from the December 10^th meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the summary of operations and statistics reports for December as well as update the Board on the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar, legislative issues, and the ER and inpatient satisfaction survey results. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will update the Board on the nursing services and ancillary service report followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, the Board will discuss the SMDH video, receive a strategic planning update, hold an annual bylaw review, get updated on hospital lagoon and the Board will address the election filings. During new business the Board will address a conflict of interest policy, the Missouri Foundation for Health Partnership Grant opportunity, the University of Missouri Tele-health grant and hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda including the minutes from the previous meeting along with bills, the food service report, attendance report and substitute list will be communications. Superintendent Steve Bryant in his reports will then address Board recognitions, candidate filings, RT3 and the AlertNow message service. In new business there will be program evaluations on the at-risk and alternative programs, the Parents as Teachers program and federal programs. The Board will then address a six-month budget comparison as well as budget amendments, a junior high football cooperative and go over resignations. The Board will then adjourn and go into Executive Session to discuss personnel and student discipline. The regular monthly meeting tonight of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Wednesday, January 13^th at 10:55 am five firefighters were dispatched to South Holman Street to assist EMS crews with a male patient. On Thursday, January 14^th four firefighters responded to County Road 4060 to assist EMS crews with an elderly person who had fallen down and needed assistance getting up. At 6:05 that evening, seven firefighters were dispatched to County Road 2390 to a family dwelling. Investigation revealed the TV cable running into the residence was burned and had caused some damage to the underpinning of the home and had caused a very small grass fire. Everything at the scene was cold to the touch and residents were advised to contact Fidelity Communications for further action.
